Continuous Emergency Alert System/EAS Tests?
« on: February 21, 2012, 09:45:12 PM »
Over the past couple of weeks I have noticed numerous Emergency Alert System tests taking place throughout the day and night. Tests around here are normally scheduled on Wednesdays. I have noticed them all through the week. One was last Thursday night at 11 p.m. That is the latest test I have seen. We had one Monday and another this afternoon. I know some areas are having Disaster Preparedness Week but this has been going on for two weeks. I am a Skywarn Spotter and have no idea why there are so many tests.

The Comcast Technician was over today to look at some problems we are having with cable in my area. He mentioned to me about how many EAS tests have been conducted recently and had no idea why they are performing them.  ???

I am not a conspiracy theorist type of person but it really has me puzzled especially since we recently went through a Nationwide EAS test and are eliminating NASA.

What are your thoughts?

Did your region recently upgrade their equipment?  When we put new equipment in town, and when the Sheriff's office upgraded theirs we ended up with a lot of tests, and some occasional glitches that set sirens off at weird times.  Your description sounded just like what we had for a month or so.

I am not sure but you would think that the Comcast Tech would know? He was the one who brought it up during conversation and got me to thinking as to why?

He's just a tech.  For sirens and automated tests it comes out of your regional center with little warning to officials or broadcasters.  For officials and broadcasters that control their local alerts they are just told to run tests at a given time.  Sometimes they get explanations as to what is trying to be verified or diagnosed, and sometimes they are just as in the dark as us.  Gubment need to know you know  :-\

I have noticed a definite uptick in EAS systems tests the last 2+ weeks.  In fact, at least one of the local radio stations is letting NOAA weather alerts pre-empt programming...something not done in the past.  We get the alerts on a normal basis, but these just "hop right in" when they occurr...makes me wonder too if the "sensitivity" has been turned up recently.

I'll put my tin-foil down,...(but only for a minute),.....Spring Tornado season is coming, coastal Hurricane season starts in a few months.

(tin foil back on),....when Martial Law is declared during the "American Spring",....it will let you know the Occupy folks are coming, along with SWAT teams,..going house to house....

Remember how bad the nationwide test failed?

Some butts and heads are on the line.  Most of them occupy the same space, so it is easier... ;)
