Tyler Durden's new puppy thread, WARNING: picture heavy
« on: February 24, 2012, 07:23:31 PM »
Hi all,

I reckoned I should just start another thread instead of dragging out my "how to make micarta" thread.  I am down to 8 pups now.  The little runt died Tuesday night.   :'(   4 are solid brown, 4 are solid black.  there is one brown female, and one black female.  I had to bottle feed them the first few days and NIGHTS  :o, until Luna the bitch/dam started producing enough milk.  I have recuperated enough now to actually compose this thread.

EDITED TO ADD THIS:  pics moved to public photo album here:

Maybe I mentioned this in my other "how to make micarta" thread, but it sounds like (from talking with the previous owners) and looks like these pups are half Weimaraner and half chocolate lab.

Okay, I will keep you guys in mind.  Thank you for your interest.

Long story short, within the last week I have spent $605 in vet bills alone on Luna.  Then on top of that is all the assorted accoutrements I had to buy....Ebsilac (Esbilac) puppy milk replacer (there must been gold flakes in that solution), bottle feeding bottles, hot water bottles, puppy kibble food, puppy canned food, cottage cheese.

Since this was so unexpected, I had to run out to the gunstore and sell a couple of guns off to pay the vet bills.  A barely used Glock 22 and a Winchester Model 70 in .30-'06 went bye bye....and I NEVER sell guns (which reminds me...not to drift this thread, but MAN! was the gunstore packed!  one or two more people in there and we would have been shoulder shoulder).

What was I saying about a long story short...oh...yeah....basically, I am not out to make money on this deal.  If I could just break even, I'd be happy.

:'( Sorry to hear about the model 70, but it looks like you've got a nice concilation prize.  ;) Congrats on the new pack, Papa.

Thanks!

well, the way I rationalize it... I am in Illinois (for now) where it is a shotgun slug for deer only state.  It would be a different story if I lived in Missouri where they can use rifle for deer...or if I knew I was heading out west for a deer/elk/moose/bear/sasquatch/yeti/musk ox/dall sheep hunt.  I bought it at an auction for $200.  I sold it two days ago for $275.

The Glock on the other hand, I bought "used" at $400 and sold it at $300.

That dang gun cut my fat hand open every time.  Arghhh...

Considering my time spent here at the house mostly and not at the range....the new pups are far more entertaining to watch and listen to.

Educational too.  I think I know now where the term "underdog" came from.

Yeah....on my things to do list is to add onto my fence in the backyard to give them more room to run.

My aunt, coincidentally, is getting out of the dog breeding business, and she was going to have her kennels/runs taken off to the scrap yard.

It's like cats, they are easy enough to herd if you aren't to fussy about the same direction, same time thing.  ;D
Remember, bribery works.
When my Dad had sled dogs whenever any of them got out of the pen, whether it was after a walk, or an escape, he brought them in the house and gave each one a piece of bread with a big gob of bacon grease on it, (they loved it and it was good for their coat)
So whenever one escaped it came straight to the house for it's goody instead of running off and getting in trouble.

Newborn puppy's are so cute.  Yours are especially so.   If anyone hasn't had the opportunity of having newborn pups you really missed out.  Those first 6-8 weeks are amazing.   They're so cute and funny.  Loveable and curious.

Thanks for sharing.  The wife and I are still missing our "puppy".

some of them have their eyes open already.  I'll probably be taking them to the vet on Monday for first shots and deworming.
