Dad Arrested, Strip-Searched After Daughter Draws a Picture of a Gun in School

A Canadian father was arrested and strip-searched Wednesday after his 4-year-old daughter drew a picture of a gun in her kindergarten class.

Ontario dad Jesse Sansone told the Toronto Sun his little girl’s drawing was supposed to be him, getting monsters and bad guys. Her teacher apparently thought differently, and the school contacted child protective services. When Sansone arrived to pick his daughter up, three police officers were waiting to take him into custody.

“I’m picking up my kids and then, next thing you know, I’m locked up,” he told the Waterloo Region Record. “I was in shock. This is completely insane.”

Police questioned Sansone’s daughter and his other children
, who gave a “detailed description” of a firearm supposedly located in the house and easily accessible to them, Inspector Kevin Thaler of the Waterloo Regional Police said, according to the Calgary Herald.

“The kids were scared,” Thaler. “It is a 4-year-old that we’re taking the information from, but the fact is that this disclosure was very descriptive and very alarming to the officers investigating this.”

He said the arrest was made “because it was the end of the school day” and officers felt they needed to “secure and locate the firearm.”

When Sansone got to the school, he was told only that he was being arrested for possession of a firearm and given no additional details. At the police station, he was forced to remove his clothes for a full strip search. While he sat in a jail cell, police even brought his pregnant wife to the station for more questioning.

The “gun” his children told police about? A toy pistol that shoots foam darts, which police discovered during a search of his house.

“The child had every belief it was real,” Thaler said. “The indication from the kids was that it was dad’s [gun].”

Sansone was finally released after four hours. He said he’s furious and that his name has been slandered.

“So many people dealt with this situation in the wrong way,” he told the Sun. “I know the principal really well, how could he judge my character in this way? I drop off and pick the kids up every day, I always say hello, I sign every report card, I go to every parent teacher meeting, I am an active parent at that school.”

But the school, police and child welfare officials all stand by their actions, according to the Record.

“From a public safety point of view, any child drawing a picture of guns and saying there’s guns in a home would warrant some further conversation with the parents and child,” said Alison Scott, executive director of Family and Children’s Services.

The Sansone family is looking for a new school for their children to attend.

“The first thing my daughter said when I saw her was, ‘Daddy are you mad at me?’” Sansone said. “That sums it up to me.”

Many will say that this is Canada, and it does not affect us.

True, it is Canada, and our Constitution is different.  However, the anti's look to other nations; S runs down hill; and if you look at a globe you will notice that Canada is close enough for our anti's to know about, and we are down hill from it.

Nerf gun control? That's ridiculous.
""It may be laid down as a primary position, and the basis of our system, that every Citizen who enjoys the protection of a free Government, owes not only a proportion of his property, but even his personal services to the defence of it, and consequently that the Citizens of America (with a few legal and official exceptions) from 18 to 50 Years of Age should be borne on the Militia Rolls, provided with uniform Arms, and so far accustomed to the use of them, that the Total strength of the Country might be called forth at a Short Notice on any very interesting Emergency." - George Washington. I'm not sure what the "right of citizens" are in Canada,....but I think the Po-Po, f-ed up.. I hope a Canuck attorney like the video mentioned, goes after whoever they can for a gazillion dollars, and an apology from the school, police, and Child Services.

It was a NERF gun!!!!!!

Where's the beating head against the wall emoticon?

Hang in there, kids. It can and will happen here. I reference the story a while back about the guy in California who was put i for a psyic eval because he owned 100 guns. Don't know if that is true but did make one of the papers out there.

Some do gooder needs an ass whipping.  People should mind their own business instead of pushing off their idology with fear and inflation of the police state.
Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom.

None of you seem to fully grasp the seriousness of this terrible situation.

First, the kid draws a picture of a gun...

Then, it's not much of a leap to have the same kid (or his friend) draw a picture of a cartridge...

The next logical step is some little Canadian sh!t drawing a picture of a dead body.

THAT would be probable cause for shutting down the entire town.

This sort of mayhem MUST be nipped in the bud or you could have kids drawing pictures of bombs.

Sheesh, guys.  Show a little common sense.  Remember, guns don't kill people. Pictures of guns kill people.

I'm announcing my own personal campaign to ban the pencils.

It's for the children.

It's the idea of a gun that needs to be banned....the very thought of one.

Make an example lf the parent and soon the rest will get the message and start whipping those thoughts and ideas out of the youngsters minds.

An uncontrolled mind is a terrible thing.

Hey, you are definitely on to something here....what we need is shock-collars....wired directly into the thought pattern centers of the brain.....
