As the title depicts, I just came back from Tulsa OK, from the Wanenmacher gunshow, It is huge, 11 acres under roof and 2 stories. If local lore is to be believed, if you go down every aisle, it is 17.5 miles long, not counting the 3/4 walk from the truck because their main parking lot was under construction, I did the whole thing on Saturday, My hips are killing me!! Now to the show. More Winchester lever actions, Colt SAA's, and high grade Brownings than I have ever seen in one place. I did go to the USSA booth, Erik Lund was not there but I did talk to His Boss who gives him high marks and I got some literature for a tactical rifle class in my semi immediate future.
2) Bill Laughridge was there and had some good used parts as well as wisdom and direction.
3) Bought a Schonfeld, 2x8 tactical scope with tactical rings, never heard of this brand before, but the glass looks good and it has a ton of features, mildot reticle, illuminated, side parallax adjustment, rear quick focus, positive adjustments on the elevation and windage. 195.00 out the door. I will give a report later.
4) I met Chris Rosequist from BOHICA, BEND OVER HERE IT COMES AGAIN, with their ..50 BMG caliber uppers for the AR15 lowers. I will try real hard to get one before November..
5) Something I was told about but had not yet seen, Nordic Components new 10/22 modular chassis, it encapsulates a 10/22
receiver, and will accept any AR15 stock, grip or full float handguard, it is way cool, but I'm going to hold out until the initial rush is over, before I purchase one, but I will purchase one, at 10 feet, it looks like an AR, and in the hands it feels like an AR.
6) A new book and dvd combo about Herb Parsons, written by his sons, who were present at the show, Tom Knapp, John Satterwhite, and others have used Herbs words and techniques through the years, but no one has equaled him, Tom Knapp is at least trying. The book is titled " Showman Shooter" and has many newspaper articles, pictures and testimony. If anyone has seen " Fast and Fancy shooters" they know his showmanship and skills. I met his boys yesterday, and I had to ask, which one of you was in the video circa 1951 or so, Lynn was the one, now a doctor and Jerry, the other son is a PHD. As a bonus, in the back of the book is a DVD, with Herb's footage, believe me, this man stands tall with all the greats, Ad Topperwine, Bill Jordan, Ed McGivern etc... I highly recommend this book, and since the original " Fast and Fancy " videos came out, there is new footage of AD Topperwine and his wife that has come unveiled. Another unbelievable couple in the world of shooting.
Lastly, I'm so sorry to hear of Charlton Hestons, death, Although as I renewed my NRA membership, today, and I did not know at the time, I know he would have been proud. He was a Giant, not only to the gun community but he was head of the screen actors guild during Joseph McCarthy, and his anti-communisim crusade, Charlton stood tall for rights, not verbage, took personal heat and blacklisting, and came out on top. In his own words, " FROM MY COLD DEAD HANDS " Rest in peace, and may his family be comforted by the Lord we share.
