way back when, in like the 1988 or 1989 time frame, the Army ROTC unit at Washington University in St. Louis, MO wanted me to go there. an ROTC scholarship wasn't going to pay for all the tuition though. I think it was either 80% or 8,000 dollars per semester, whichever is higher. IIRC, back then tuition was $12,000 per semester, so I was going to have come up with something close to $4,000 out of my own pocket.
I did get a 4 year Army ROTC scholarship that I was planning on taking to Embry-Riddle at Daytona Beach Florida. Embry-Riddle was then going to cover room and board because of the 4 year ROTC scholarship.
Then the Air Force gave me a 3.5 year scholarship to Embry-Riddle at Prescott, AZ .
Then at the last minute on May 3rd, 1990, Rep. Jerry Costello called my high school to offer me an appointment to the Air Force Academy or West Point. I wanted to fly, so naturally took USAFA....then Bill Clinton became the Prez in 1992 and there went the budget for pilot training slots.

I should have gone to ERAU at Daytona and partied my a$$ off instead.
