Web Development Software Question
« on: March 03, 2012, 06:14:09 PM »
OK, somebody here has to know something about software to develop websites.  I should have asked Marshall when I met him yesterday and thought that several times during the conversation at USSA yesterday but it never made it to the conversation (guns rule).

I don't want to develop something super sophisticated.  I just want to get the presence out there and something to see while the site is being developed.  The goal, pick up some gun and ammo money.

Anyway, I purchased some domains www.igottahaveajob.com/net/mobi/org and www.ineedhelpnow.net/org .  So...I'm looking to find a niche' where people who need help can get workers and select the workers they want to make offers to....plus some enhancements not found in current websites.  The focus is bluecollar workers.

So...what's a good software to use to get a page or two up?

Sorry, Rastus, no help with the software...

But wanted to comment that your idea reminded me of a short story I read some time ago titled  We also walk dogs.

Maybe your idea will lead to something like that.

Take care and good luck.

Hienlien, I think it was in his "Green Hills of Earth" anthology.
As I recall the gist of it was Scientific break through s made, assassinations thwarted, governments subverted and dogs walked.
Good story  ;D

I saw a suggestion on another forum that you could start a business programming all of the TV remotes so that all of the functions actually, ya know, worked?  ;D  One lady on the forum said she would spend some serious money to get all of the functions/devices into one remote!

I'm in the initial stages of messing with Hostgator to run my site, using Wordpress for the site and the blog, and probably SMF for the forum. I have the domains registered through Go-Daddy ($8 for the dot-coms, pretty cheap).

We should talk maybe? ? ? ?

Haven't heard from him in a while, but philw is a computer geek, sledge posted today, maybe he can get a feeler out,....also I think philw used to work for Microsoft, and has a Facebook profile, I do not facebook or tweet, but that could be a valid 2nd opinion.

I think blogspot is a pretty easy format to jump on.

Depends on how fancy and,,,,,of course,,,,,the $$$ of investment.

Best of luck!!! Wish I knew more.

sorry for the late reply

all depends on how you want to run it,  and update it

these days alot of people start using what we call CMS ( content management systems )   it is all server based for the editing and you work with templets

I run 2 websites and both are running on Joomla  took a little to get it worked out however very easy to update

my old man got me on to it and helps me out when i am stuck

best thing would be to look at similar sites or just web sites in general and get a wish list of what you are looking for and wanting to get out of the site then put a bit of a map down of different pages and things

and remember you need to keep peoples attention  so clean slick sites work well  with the info they are looking for quick and easy to find  or people just move on to something else fast.

any questions sing out

Nice work!

However, I would have expected to see at least one reloading center in the mix  ;)

Well I did build a fella a reloading and gun room. A usual I forgot to take pictures. It had upper an lower cabinets along a 12' wall with the center of the counter area free for his Dillon 650 press. We added two 80"x 36" tall cabinets to the back wall for shooting and hunting gear.
