What would you buy if you had an extra $1000?
« on: March 04, 2012, 07:58:56 PM »
I'm selling some stuff this week and will find myself in possession of $1000 that the wife said I have to spend on guns.

I'm not sure what to get, but have some ideas.  I can get an AK and a home defense shotgun for $1000, right?  how about something from the Performance Center?  Maybe some parts to build another AR?  A Ruger Super Redhawk is within that limit, as is a Chiappa Rhino.  Don't really know what yet.  Probably will end up depositing it in the bank and paying some bills.  That's what my conscience is telling me to do, but it's fun to think about.

What would you guys buy with the money?

I think I would use it to buy a Flattop Blackhawk .357 in mint shape and use the rest of the money buying reloading components to try to wear it out.

Depends... If I were to buy into the election year hype, I'd get all the primers I could.

Otherwise, I'd be torn between putting really good triggers in my ARs, a 5.56 suppressor or a 44 Mag revolver.

Something you don't already have, but would like.
Or Ammo.

An extra 1000? I'd get some tweaks done on the guns I already have.

Let me break this down for you.   There are three purposes to your purchase: Collectable. SHOOTER. SD/SHTF/EOTWAWKI.  You need to decide which is more important right now.

COLLECTABLE:   There were some of Col Charles Askins rifles for auction last week.   Or maybe a 25th anniversary Glock or 100 Anniversary 1911.  How about a gold plated Walther PPK?   Something you're not going to shoot, but put away and show off to friends.   I don't have any of those. My IBM M1 Carbine is about as close as I get to a collectible.

SHOOTER:  What do you shoot regularly?  What do you want to shoot?  Buy something you'll really, REALLY use.  CAS?  IDPA/IPSC?  GSSF?  Bullseye?  3 Gun?  Trap/Skeet?  Varmint? National Match?  Deer?  Turkey?  Gator?

SD/SHTF/EOTWAWKI:   Is this the priority for the next 1$K?  An FN FAL maybe?   Or a tacticool shotgun?  How about a bunch of C&R stuff to waterproof and bury in the back yard?  Or your next 1911?

See so simple, just drill down on what's important.

Oh what the heck, get a Blackhawk.   I've got it in my mind that even though SA revolvers aren't my thing I should have one anyway.  But I'm looking for something under $200.  Just to say I have one.  Like my 30/30.   Somebody's old junker.  As long as it shoots.

I'm in a similar boat, actually just half of what you have $500 after my next trip.  I got mine from travel per deim for work and the wife may or may not know about it (our version of don't ask don't tell-hey she gets everything else, besides I'd just eat it all if I have to give it back  ;D).

What I am considering:
Ammo 22LR, 45 ACP, 12 guage slugs and 00 Buck (all guns that I own)
A 22LR pistol (Ruger MKIII w/threaded barrel)
Tweaking the guns I have now (bull barrel/stock for the 10/22, sling and sights for the 870 and belt/holsters for the XDM)
Talking to my dad this Spring break about going in on a Dillon 650.
Give it to the house (wife) to make up for all the stuff I lost on my last trip.

All, none or any combo is likely to happen  ;D

Seeing as I am having rotator cuff surgery next month I would buy a Ponness-Warren Autodrive for my XL650 press.
