Gun Vault warning

Just to let you know, my dad and I bought a Gun Vault at our local gun store.  We bought the MiniVault Standard GV 1000s.   We programmed the key pad.  All was working well.   I had surgery so my gun sat in the safe and when I was going to the range after having it in the safe for 2 weeks the combination would not work.   I had to go get the key to manually open it.   My dad had the same issue.   Well after calling them, they had a batch that was made in March of 2011 that they need to replace because there was a problem with it draining the 8 AA batteries.   So there is a 5 week turn around to get us new ones and then we send back the old ones.
So if you are in the market for one, make sure it is not a March 2011 version.   Just a friendly heads up.  I am glad I did not need to get to it in a hurry because the key was no where close.

I've had one for since 2009.  I've replaced the batteries once but I keep a key on my keychain and the other with wife's keys to make sure I can always open the vault.  It's worked flawlessly the entire time.

I've had a Gunvault for over 8 years with the original batteries in it with no issues.  Probably because I don't keep my gun in it, it is usually with me or within arms reach.

The problem was with the batch that came out in March of 2011.  I was just letting everyone know to watch out for that batch. They said all their other ones had no problem.   Just that month and year.   So if you are buying one online ask when it was made or if you are looking at it the store, just peak under the foam padding to see so you do not have to wait 5 weeks for a new one from the company.   I am excited to get a new one.
