Component Shortages? Again?
« on: March 22, 2012, 09:14:35 PM »
Was getting ready to assemble a large order for powder and primers and couldn't find one dealer that didn't have backorder status on at least half my order.    I need to order everything from one dealer to dilute the HazMat fee.

MidwayUSA says about CCI primers  "NO BACKORDER".

Some re-stock dates are in June!

Anyone else notice this?

Yes Alf, and it's only going to get worse. More panic fewer components. Fewer components more panic. Here we go again. By this summer it will be worse. Get what you can now don't wait. Hodgdon is saying powder shortages by summer.

Have you  tried Powder Valley?  I just looked and they have very few "out of stock" in all of there powders and primers. I just ordered 3x8lbs of powder and their website states only about 3 day delay in shipping compared to Wiedeners 8-10 back log.

Thanks, GPDeluxe.

I went there and ordered 12 pounds of powder and 10,000 primers.   They indicated everything was in stock.  Hopefully it is.

On CCI #500 primers:
Midway is showing "no backorder" & restock 4/23
Midsouth out and isn't expecting restock not until June!

Alf,
I am starting to see the same as you. Like others, I am buying powder and primers every pay cycle. I learned a lesson from the last round of this. Buy when you don't need them because when you need them, buying them might be out of the question.

For right now, I have a local shop that is able to get primers (Federal too) and I am focusing on them; plus the price is around $30/1000.

I'm not as good as you about keeping stocked, George.

I try to keep primer cost at or below $30.  Most shops around here are running $35-$40.

So if I make a big order, as is in this case, and spread the HazMat and shipping over the whole order then it works out to under $30/1000.  Especially since there's no sales tax.
