I'm sure the parents are truly honored and proud of such a worthy tribute and memorial to their fallen son.

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. -

North Miami Beach police said surveillance video shows dozens of high school students demonstrating in the Trayvon Martin case Friday ransacking a Walgreens store.

The incident occurred during a walkout from North Miami Beach Senior High School in support of Martin, 17, who was fatally shot in Sanford. Protesters have been calling for the arrest of George Zimmerman, 28, who has not been charged because he claimed self-defense in the shooting, according to police.

Number one:  It is not his claim of self defense that has stopped him from being arrested and charged.  It is the fact that they have not uncovered a reason to arrest and charge - Yet.

Maybe I am too cranky and rednecked, but why didn't they bar the doors and let the cops escort them out?  Out here on the farm, when the pigs funnel themselves into a building we lock the door until we can get a trailer to it to transport them back to their pens.  This is going to sound racist, but lock the door and let their keepers lock them in cages!

Question Of The Day
Joe Huffman says there is only one question he wants answered about the Trayvon Martin case. And depending on the answer, that will be all he needs to know about the case.

The one question I have that will probably settle the issue for me is when the authorities said, "Zimmerman then shot Martin once in the chest at very close range"; What was that range? I've probably spent more time and money than most on learning about such things and if the investigators know what they are doing, and I have no reason to believe they don't, then they should be able to determine that range quite accurately. If the range was under 12 inches they can probably determine the range to within a fraction of an inch. And of course the angle can be determine quite closely as well.

If the range is determined to be within six inches and the bullet path matches Zimmerman's story then I have to conclude the two were in a fight at contact distance and Zimmerman was losing badly. If I were on a jury I would insist that Zimmerman was in reasonable fear of imminent permanent physical injury or death and was justified in using deadly force to protect himself.

    End of story for me.

This is a very interesting question and one I hope will be answered sooner than later.

Going to be interesting. As I posted, and a reference to the Walgreens ransacking, if this Grand Jury acquits Zimmerman of criminal charges,....it's going to get violent. No one knows to what extent, but the media, and "political and professional antagonizers",...are encouraging it.

Not to mention the NBPP.

I read one account that the police said there was a full magazine in the PF9, and one spent casing int he chamber, indicating that the semi-auto action had not cycled. This usually happens when the muzzle of the firearm is pressed against the target and the slide moves slightly out of battery IIRC.

And yes, this is a crappy time to live on the Gulf coast of Florida. My guess is the cops will charge Zimmerman with something - anything - in the hopes of keeping the lid on for now, then quietly let the charges lapse sometime down the road.

I think it is just a precursor of thinks to come.  In stead of bHo, Holder, and the administration calling for calm and letting the investigation and justice system run it's coarse, they aren't letting a crisis go to waste.  Holder calling for looking into "stand your ground laws."  This crisis can be used to their advantage to stir things up to further their agenda and diverting attention from Fast and Furious.  A seemingly unrelated incident of perceived injustice, such as a minority fleeing the police and dying in the resulting accident, just may be the spark that starts the marshmallow and weinie roast.  Why isn't bHo, Holder, or anybody else in the administration decrying the bounty on Zimmerman and the retoric that the New Black Panthers are spewing.  I have heard, but not confirmed that the NBPP has raised the bounty to a million.

By the way one of the leaders of the New Black Panthers was just arrested on firearms charges:

From the article:

Some of the students dropped their IDs on the way out of the store, police said, so investigators have an idea of who was inside.

In my current situation, working 1,000 miles from home, the direct, high-speed route home goes through or near:
- Chicago (sort of)
- Rockford, IL
- Madison, WI
- Minneapolis / St. Paul, MN

not to mention the medium-sized city I live in and all of the other mid-size towns like Peoria on the route - all major "post-racial" metro areas that can reasonably be expected to go up should there be a spark to this long, hot summer.

For the first time, I am getting very serious about a GHB (get home bag for the car) and looking at alternate routes, especially around the big cities. Good practice in any case, and God willing it will not be necessary to implement. The major concern is gasoline to get home on - I am not in a situation where I can store so much as a pint, let alone the many gallons I would need.

Since it is the PRI (people's republik of illinois), I also have to be careful of any self defense equipment - and I have to bring it from home, can't acquire it here.
