They introduced a new platform a week after they gave notice of a hold on new orders due to overwhelming demand in the first quarter. Does this mean we won't actually see this new product anytime soon? If so, then what was the point?

I would guess that if they have a new design ready to be announced, they have allocated production facilities for the anticipated initial demand.  And since they would be anxious to start recouping the development and tooling costs they have not re-assigned that capacity to existing lines.

Marketing, marketing, marketing!

This was in the R&D chain before supply and demand went wacky.  They are just moving forward as planned.  Everyone has become used to the lack of firearms on the shelves, and are prepared to wait.

Ruger has been running full tilt.  They have a few thousand of these in distributors hands.
They're running two lines for the 1911 and have equipment on they way to run a third line.

I spoke to Ruger about 10 days ago on another matter and the conversation drifted to how busy they were.  I mentioned how my local dealer has been waiting for a 1911 and a SP101 in .22 for me for awhile.  Ruger told me they are shipping them regularly, put the products are going right thru the distributors to fill their backorders.  They said they couldn't hire fast enough.  Another local dealer has been unsuccessful in ordering some MKIII .22 pistols to replace the ones they have been selling.

I have found the 1911 and the .22 SP101 from other sources, but I'm trying to support the local dealer who has been very fair in pricing to me.  Also, I'm cheap, and don't want tp pay the hire prices I've seen on the items elsewhere.  I am waiting longer, but for $50 -$10 dollars in savings, I'll do so.

Anybody want to trade a slightly used and very good Mark III Target, for an 1873 in .357  ;D  I got a spare of one, and I really need a rifle.

If I'd seen this coming I'd have held off on the AR-7..
I'll trade it for the Mark III.. It's only had a dozen or so rounds through it if you're interested...  :)
