A worth while reminder
« on: March 29, 2012, 07:13:01 AM »
A little known nor discussed piece of history. When one thinks of genocide you would mostly likely think of Hitler and the Jews. One does not necessary think about the Soviet Union nor its policies. In one year the USSR wiped out 7 million Ukranians for their communist ideaology. Please watch the video, as George Santayana once said "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it" he also said "only the dead have seen the end of war"
Sad to think even when  was  a child in school we was taught the Nazis where the bad ones and the russians was our allies, the whole truth was never told.
Worse still the west at the time knew these attrocites was going on and did sweet FA to stop it.

WARNING: (seriously) Viewer discretion is advised, not for the squeamish nor children.

no subtitles sorry, but you will get the gist

Walter Durante of the New York Times claimed he saw no signs of this.
Other reporters who were there wondered if he was blind, stupid, or a Soviet propagandist.
The history of the NYT suggests the latter.

An hour and a half well spent on refreshing my history lessons!

Makes dealing with Putin for another cycle all the more poignant!

Putin may be a prick, but he is exactly what Russia needs.
This crap about "democracy for every one in the world" is stupidity that flies in the face of the historic facts.
Many societies simply are not capable of governing themselves with out a strong dictator.
Africa, and the Arab world supply dozens of examples, :Afghanistan, and Zimbabwe to name 2.

I was just pointing out why we can't trust the prick!  He has more than a vested interest in keeping the history of the brutality in that country quiet!  Personally, I'll never trust a Russian national!  I've worked with a few lately and they were more than willing to stick anyone in the back who got in their way.

My opinion, nothing more...

Societies, as a whole, as history shows, flourish under strong leadership..... Granted many have been bad,....and the masses went along with it.....We know the references to cite to back that up...

However, These United States, founded by history standards, as recent,...created something different...

We told King George to piss off,...we told most of the world that we won;t play that game. Our Constitution is different. Written by a different bunch of gentleman, that sacrificed their sacred honor, family fortunes, and literally everything to carve out something different.

Now we find ourselves doomed to repeat history, as we haven't learned the lesson of history. (at least not the political structure anyway)....

Want a dangerous reputation? Quote our Founding Fathers in circles you associate with...

"I place economy among the first and most important republican virtues, and public debt as the greatest of the dangers to be feared. To preserve our independence, we must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt." ---Thomas Jefferson

"And that the said Constitution be never construed to authorize Congress to infringe the just liberty of the Press, or the rights of Conscience; or to prevent the people of the United States, who are peaceable citizens, from keeping their own arms..."
Philadelphia Independent Gazetteer, 1798 - Sam Adams

"The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government."
Thomas Jefferson Papers

"I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them, it is not to inaugurate new programs, but to cancel old ones that do violence to the Constitution, or that have failed in their purpose, or that impose on the people an unwarranted financial burden. I will not attempt to discover whether legislation is ‘needed’ before I have first determined whether it is constitutionally permissible. And if I should later be attacked for neglecting my constituents’ interests, I shall reply that I was informed their main interest is liberty and that in that cause I am doing the very best I can."
Barry Goldwater

"A free people ought not only to be armed and disciplined but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government."
George Washington

"Give me liberty, or give me death."
Patric Henry

Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."
Col. Jeff Cooper.

Sledge, why do you think our Gen. Patton wanted to re-arm the Germans after VE day and go after the Russians? He knew full well what they were - and are - and a damn sight more knew too.

Not arguing with you that Putin is no friend of the US, just pointing out that he is exactly the type of leader that will benefit Russia the most.
As if we could elect Barry Goldwater.
