That wins, hands down, the " B-side" Classic tunes of all time,..please fwd. to the MB secretbunker archives,...

It would give him a smile,,....and the Baron..... ;D

The Good Baron was given a full military honors funeral after his being shot down, by the enemy,...simply out of respect and gallantry. Although some say he was shot by a man on the ground.....

My how times have changed.

Richthofen was fatally wounded just after 11:00 am on 21 April 1918, while flying over Morlancourt Ridge, near the Somme River.49°56′0.60″N 2°32′43.71″E

At the time, the Baron had been pursuing (at very low altitude) a Sopwith Camel piloted by a novice Canadian pilot, Lieutenant Wilfrid "Wop" May of No. 209 Squadron, Royal Air Force.[41] In turn, the Baron was spotted and briefly attacked by a Camel piloted by a school friend (and flight commander) of May's, Canadian Captain Arthur "Roy" Brown, who had to dive steeply at very high speed to intervene, and then had to climb steeply to avoid hitting the ground.[41] Richthofen turned to avoid this attack, and then resumed his pursuit of May.[41]

It was almost certainly during this final stage in his pursuit of May that Richthofen was hit by a single .303 bullet, which caused such severe damage to his heart and lungs that it must have produced a very speedy death.[42][43] In the last seconds of his life, he managed to make a hasty but controlled landing ( 49°55′56″N 2°32′16″E) in a field on a hill near the Bray-Corbie road, just north of the village of Vaux-sur-Somme, in a sector controlled by the Australian Imperial Force (AIF).[41] One witness, Gunner George Ridgway, stated that when he and other Australian soldiers reached the aircraft, Richthofen was still alive but died moments later.[43] Another eye witness, Sergeant Ted Smout of the Australian Medical Corps, reported that Richthofen's last word was "kaputt".[44][N 3]

In common with most Allied air officers, Major Blake, who was responsible for Richthofen's remains, regarded the Red Baron with great respect, and he organised a full military funeral, to be conducted by the personnel of No. 3 Squadron AFC.

Richthofen was buried in the cemetery at the village of Bertangles, near Amiens, on 22 April 1918. Six airmen with the rank of Captain—the same rank as Richthofen—served as pallbearers, and a guard of honour from the squadron's other ranks fired a salute.[N 4] Allied squadrons stationed nearby presented memorial wreaths, one of which was inscribed with the words, "To Our Gallant and Worthy Foe".

You have no idea how surprised I was at about age 8 to find out that The Red Baron" was an actual person.
several decades ago I ran across and read his autobiography published during the war, "Der Rote Kampffleiger"
(Of course it was an English translation )
Some cool trivia about him, among the pilots under his command  who survived the war were his brother Lothar, and a promising young pilot named Hermann Goering .
Another relative who joined Manfred's command was his cousin Wolfram who later rose to the rank of General Field Marshal of the Luftwaffe

As far as I know there is still debate whether it was an Aussie Enfield, or a Canadian Vickers, both were .303.
