The news media, especially print media, really chaps me most of the time. My state of NC recently passed a modification to the CCW law allowing carry by CCW holders in parks. They allow local counties and municipalities to restrict carry by local ordinance if they deem fit.
A newspaper in a county nearby really got their panties in a wad over the state's stand on concealed carry. They editorialized the front page, by making it sound like no ones kids would be safe, shoot outs would be common from hot head cowboy types. What they did was use comments from the Brady bunch like "some say, blah, blah" or "it has been reported blah, blah". Another tactic is "reliable sources, blah, blah".
What finally passed was restriction of all firearms in city parks but it is OK in county parks unless some portion sells alcohol. A golf clubhouse nixes the whole park. You can be in a county owned park inside the city and be legal. Someone visiting not in the know can get dinged for breaking the law. A person with a legal permit doesn't know what to do.
I sent a response to their readers forum trying to give the other side of the discussion. I even offered to pay for and loan a handgun to any reporter willing to take a CCW course. I got no takers, plus they chopped up my letter to the editor. To many people take what is printed as the truth. They learn about guns from TV.
Only thing I could do was cancel my paper subscription.
