Similar odds to winning the lottery - FTF Glock
« on: April 01, 2012, 11:02:15 AM »
Odds are about the same as hitting the Mega-Millions lottery, unfortunately I had a failure to feed on my Glock rather than hitting the lottery.  Using a factory Mag and quality ammo (Remington Golden Sabres) I thought the last round was ejected and the slide stayed open, but always check with the barrel pointed down range and noticed one more round jammed keeping the slide open (thats why I do that.)  FTR I did clean prior to shooting and shot less than 100 rounds before this happened.

Needless to say, I would rather win a fortune than clear a jam for a one-in-a-million event to happen to me.  Doh!

I bought one ticket and then decided I rather not win 640 million!  First ticket I've bought in about 15 years!

Too many horror stories with those big lotto wins!  We have a new game up here called "$1000/day for life".  I could live very, very well as could my entire family on $365,000.00/year for the next sixty years....(I would have my 27 year old daughter co-sign the ticket with my wife.)!

I was surprised that the FL boys aren't included in the Mega thing...

Somebody is going to be spending that ticket money on new mag springs....

Give the "G" an attitude adjustment in the dishwasher! Stop cleaning it. ;) and check the mag spring length against another "newer" mag. Some spring set maybe?

Florida lotto, in its infinite wisdom, does the Powerball thingy, not the Mega Millions...

Says the guy who's apparently never been to a GSSF match and/or drinks too much Glock kool-aid. It's happened several times each of the two years that I've volunteered as an RO, along with failures to extract, failures to feed, etc.

I had a 1911 for 4 years that never burped after the first few magazines.  I shot it clean, dirty, wet, hot, cold, dry.....not bad for 700 bucks...

The odds on winning last Fridays Mega Millions was 1 in 175,000,000!  Even Gaston ain't going to get those type of numbers!

1 in 175,000,000 isn't so bad.  That is for purchasing 1 ticket.  IIRC the jackpot was $450,000,000.  So, if you buy 175,000,000 tickets, you are a winner of 225,000,000.  Only spoiler is that there most likely will be other winners....and finding the time to fill out 175,000,000 tickets.   The odds don't make it a bad gamble.

It was up to 640 million and there were three jackpot tickets sold.  We had five people who won 250K here in MA!

Either way....too much money to deal with for me!  I don't buy them very often..

There's a trick to this and the states have all pretty much passed laws which outlaw it.

Several years ago, when FL lottery exceeded it's odds by 2:1 an offshore syndicate had pre-printed all the tickets that they needed to bet on every number. (most of them anyway.)   They had an organization in place and were able to put down bets with all those tickets in less than a week.  I believe they did have to share the prize but still, after expenses, they came out a couple of million ahead.

The way the states prohibit that is they don't allow pre-printed tickets.  You must fill out your entry by hand.

BACK TO THE GLOCK:    I wonder if you shoot 175,000,000 rounds how many failures will occur?.   While the Glock might last longer than most,  I'm willing to bet the failure goes fairly high by the time you reach 10,000,000 if not 1,000,000 rounds.

Too funny.. My late wife was the one who thought up that angle.. Living in from Cedar Key and going to school at Shands.. She couldn't get the one guy she knew with that kind of dough to do it, but it got passed on to someone who could/would.. She was a statistician.. Never made a dime on that one.. Shortly after that one, she married me.. I guess she really was on a losing streak.. As I recall, (a long time ago now), the angle only required 88,000 tickets.. I'm afraid it would take considerably more today, and have to spread alot farther..
With friends like these, who needs hallucinations!..
