Southport, CT - April 9, 2008 - Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE:RGR), announces that it has determined that Ruger SR9 pistols manufactured between October 2007 and April 2008 can, under certain conditions, fire if dropped with their manual safeties in the "off" or "fire" position and a round in the chamber. The pistols will not fire if the manual safety is in the "on" or "safe" position.

I don't own a SR9 but I seriously looked at one and if the OD green came up I might have a hard time walking away from it. Recall's are a part of life sorry to say even in our neck of the woods. With this firearm being out for such a short time it gives pause for thought when you see this happen. But what is important to rember here is these firearms are made by humans and we do make mistakes, Ruger is doing the right think by not making us pay for a mistake they made. I've said it before a quality made product is very important but its also as important to back it up with quality service. Not give you the line "Oh we never heard there was a problem." I've had to send back everyone of my firearms for one thing or another to be fixed over the years. I didn't like it but every company I dealt with fixed the problem free of cost to me and gave me a kiss and a hug too boot ;D And yes I would feel this way if I did own this pistol and had to send it back.

OK So the birthday gun is being recalled. We own three Rugers and this makes #2 that has to go back.
At least they're going to send everything prepaid, except I will have to drive about one hour each way to a location that will accept it.
(Shoulda' got that Baretta instead?)

By the way, "THANKS MARSHALL". It could have been awhile before I'd found out about this if it wasn't for DRTV!

Darn it!  Now I'll have to break in a new trigger.  That means I'll have to put more rounds through it.  Hey, I guess that isn't such a bad thing after all.

It looks like Ruger is being very proactive about it and I'll get a new clip from the deal.

Thanks to DRTV for the quick notification.

Looked hard at the SR9, got the M+P instead. Read Articles, reviews, and for me, the M+P was a better deal.

As far as recalls I can tell you it is inherent in all industries. Mercruiser Marine engines are great, they develop a problem that the manufacturer has "NEVER HEARD OF THAT BEFORE", BUT we have a kit to fix it and will send it right away. :P

Hopefully they will work it out, I own several Ruger handguns and my 10/22 is a first rate.

Thank you for the post I know they sold a heck of a lot of the SR9's

My state SUCKS! But I'm stuck here for awhile. Anyway, I blame UPS since they will only accept hand guns at the terminal locations and the closest one is an hour away. It's not like I'm in the middle of nowhere, I'm in New Jersey fachrissakes! Fuggetabbaattit!  At least I'll get a free CLIP out of it.  ;D
