Trayvon Martin case about guns, not race

I figured it would come up sooner or later......

Cosby: Trayvon Martin case about guns, not race

WASHINGTON (AP) — Actor and comedian Bill Cosby says the debate over the killing of Trayvon Martin by a neighborhood watch volunteer should be focused on guns, not race.

In an interview on CNN's "State of the Union" aired Sunday, Cosby said calling George Zimmerman a racist doesn't solve anything. Cosby says the bigger question is what Zimmerman was doing with a gun, and who taught him how to behave with it.

The shooting of the 17-year-old Martin on Feb. 26 has ignited a nationwide debate about race and self-defense.

Cosby said during the interview, which was taped Thursday afternoon, that he once owned a gun but no longer does. He says there is a need to get guns off the streets, and that people should be taught to use every possible alternative before shooting someone.

"I expect perdition, I always have. I keep this building at my back, and several guns handy, in case perdition arrives in a form that's susceptible to bullets. I expect it will come in the disease form, though. I'm susceptible to diseases, and you can't shoot a damned disease." ~ Judge Roy Bean, Streets of Laredo

For the Patriots of this country, the Constitution is second only to the Bible for most. For those who love this country, but do not share my personal beliefs, it is their Bible. To them nothing comes before the Constitution of these United States of America. For this we are all labeled potential terrorists. ~ Dean Garrison

Bill Cosby, of all people should know that we live in a world that is also inhabited by very bad people.  After all, he lost his son to one.

I'm sorry, but is someone (and I don't care if it is Mother Teresa) cold cocks you and is banging your head against the pavement, shooting them is an appropriate response.

Yeah, Tex.  It's hard to believe ANY celebrity would spew a bunch of nonsense.

After all, they MUST be pretty darned smart to read what someone else writes, and do what someone else tells 'em to do.

Right?  Right??

Wait a minute... Could I be mistaken about this?

Sheesh...

Actually Cosby isn't normally an asshole.
Must be getting senile, he's in his 80's.

I was watching something today on PBS.  Lady was well educated, child of two teachers who were well off for the the 50's and 60's and black.  This lady had more opportunity than I did as a child of a skilled laborer!  She was my age, full of spirit that she professes was instilled in her from her parents.

Her parents did well with her but......she thinks racism exists for several reasons today;  mostly because of the disproportionate number of blacks that are incarcerated in our federal and state prisons!  For some reason, they get convicted at a much higher rate than their population numbers indicate!  If they're only 12.4% of the population, why do they make up 80% of the prison population?

I was screaming at the television as I watched......"might it be because their committing crimes disproportionate with their demographic?"

I turned it off and watered my garden....How can smart people be so stupid?

Someone needs to remind the media that this is not the "Trayvon Martin Case."  It is the George Zimmerman case, and it is about his actions.

Bingo!  And remind them that he has to be PROVEN guilty.  Its a shame that these deals get tried in the media by the race and hate baiters.  If he's guilty, he needs to do the time.  If not guilty, he walks away.

Tragedy all the way around.

So, Cosby must have been on-scene and knows exactly what happened?  I don't think so.

Two points:

1.  It's not about race or guns, but about behavior.
2.  This could happen to any of us.
