Clinton details crime-fighting plan

U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton is to announce in West Philadelphia today a crime-fighting plan that she boldly says will halve homicide rates in cities over five years.

Clinton will unveil the plan - "Solutions for Safe and Secure Communities Now" - at the Westside YMCA, 51st and Chestnut streets.

Clinton's announcement comes 11 days before the crucial Pennsylvania Democratic primary.  Much of Clinton's plan is not new. She has promised more funding for the COPS (Community Oriented Policing Services) program, an increased effort to fight recidivism and some moderate gun control - such as renewal of the assault-weapons ban.

She promises:

* To update the COPS program, established in President Bill Clinton's administration, by providing funding for 100,000 community cops. The program also would provide technology grants and $250 million per year for community prosecutors.

* To set up a $1 billion grant program to support local efforts to reduce the number of repeat offenders. Grants could help reform a probation system or set up a job-training service for ex-offenders.

* To renew the ban on assault weapons and repeal the Tiahrt amendment, which restricts federal authorities from sharing gun-trace information with local law enforcement.

* To help at-risk children by doubling their number in after-school programs and expanding the number of early-intervention mentoring programs. *

I've been keeping an eye on House Bill H.R. 1022...the latest incarnation of the AWB. It was introduced a little over a year ago, but hasn't been scheduled for debate.

Can we get Ruger to go after the House for copyright infringement on the use of "1022" in this way? >:(

We knew it was coming, I agree with the 10/22 post, ironic isn't it?

Next thing will be HR .338 or .223 to ban something else responsible citizens enjoy.

We'll need to "Fight the Good Fight" yet again, one consequence, is my ammo will be $100.00 for a box of 20 rds.

Hopefully they won't ban reloading equip.

We need to get rid of these "people" by what ever means are effective. If that means campaigning against them and their Socialist agenda , fine. If it means saying one of them touched you in the Mens room, Hey, what ever works.

I've heard "stock up before Nov." looks like its time, BUT what about the inventory that's out there?

The firearm manufacturers seem obviously silent to not be "punished" by big brother which if gets too big will take away not just the 2nd Amend, but others will follow.

How's that gun ownership in England working out? Or most of Europe?

Gun stores and ranges are GONE :'(

I LIKE European style gun control.
Particularly the style they have in SWITZERLAND ! ( If you are so physicly messed up that they can not ISSUE you a select fire rifle, carbine, or crew served weapon, Then the Govt. subsidy will allow them to SELL you one REALLY REALLY cheap)   ;D
