interesting stories behind them,   also included Wittenoom ( from over in Western Australia )
Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. The only thing you can’t do is ignore them

It seems the most common theme, as with our western ghost towns is a one industry town that dies when the industry fades out.
Played out mines, phase out of the product,or collapse of the "company town's" parent company.

Second is social or natural disaster.

I didn't see Detroit on this list.   ;)

Or Chernobyl for that matter.   :o

And I worked in downtown Gary, IN for nearly 2 years. They ain't far from the truth, it was a boarded up hellhole back then (early 90's) AND the murder capital of the country. Nothing at all to hear gunshots in the distance as we left work.

Chernobyl is the plant, the town is Prypiat.

There was an interesting chronicle running on PBS about the wolves of Chernobyl.  It seems that the wildlife is thriving inside the exclusion zones of Ukraine and Belarus.  Wolf, moose, beaver, raptors and of course 8 ft long catfish inside the cooling ponds.  Their growth in size has nothing to do with radiation, it's their lifespan and lack of predators that contributes to their huge size.

That third eye is a dead giveaway though.  ;D
You can say lots of bad things about pedophiles; but at least they drive slowly past schools.

Surprised that Japanese city right next to the Nuke Plant that had a meltdown wasn't listed after the earthquake. Over 100,000+ people forced to leave. I think it was segmented on 60 minutes.

Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."

Really interesting article. Detroit will make the next countdown or if there were 21 instead of 20. Detroit is city that needs leveled and restarted just as Gary, Indiana.
