Hiwall vs Sharps
« on: May 04, 2012, 11:29:23 AM »
Michael, how is the search going?  I like you years ago wanted to get into long range buffalo rifle competition.  I started off with a original rolling block action with a numrich barrel.  I then bought a browning hiwall in 45-70 the bpcr model.  then I won a persoli quigley model.  then I bought a falling blocks works hiwall in 38-55 then a couple of years ago I won a Shiloh sharps in 45-70.  I believe that I have come to the conclusion that I cant decide what I like better the hi-wall or the 74 sharps style. ;D  If you are interested in this style of shooting consider comeing and visiting us we have the largest buffalo rifle match in the world right here in Forsyth, MT.  http://www.quigleymatch.com/

I bought a 30-inch, octagonal barrel Highwall in 45/70 from Taylor's. Marshal bought a similar spec Sharps, also from Taylor. Producer John Carter bought a 45/70 Highwall from Cimmarron.

Now we'll see how it all works!

I'm planning on 2 loads...a 405-gr Laser Cast bullet w/Trail Boss for 100 yard shooting, and a 535-gr Montana Bullet Company bullet with Accurate 5477 for the longer stuff.

Carter's cooking up something similar with 5744...Marshal will no doubt be contrarian!

PS: I want to go with a Montana Vintage Arms scope, but I gotta wait until I hustle up some mo' money!
