S&W 1911 E Range Report and Pics
« on: May 10, 2012, 01:18:59 PM »
Remember that commercial "This isn't your father's Oldsmobile...."  Well, the S&W E Series 1911 ain't your father's 1911.  I love a pure 1911, but I love this, too.  What is different - Scandium Frame, 4.25" barrel, Titanium Firing Pin, Tritium Sites, Checkering and Ambi safety out of the box, unique serrations (front and rear) of the slide and a unique grip.  Store price $1,199.  How it looks - like an $1,800 custom job.
How did it shoot?  It shot great, I am the problem with misses.  Only got 50 rounds since I was in a rush to try it and time was short.  It missed low and the brass came down on my head so I need to do some work.  I usually miss high to the left.  With some practice I know this will be very accurate and a pleasure to shoot.  It looks great, but this is not staying in the safe.
Hope RP has seen and experienced better results with this 1911 than with the shorter barrled versions of this platform.

Nice.   :D

Love the scaled slide serrations....how does it feel with the rounded backside?

I have rather large hands and it fits great!  One of the reasons I chose this model.  Like I said said, this is not for everyone, but it had so much going for it that I wanted (4.25 barrel, custom extras etc) AND it felt right when I held it.

And that is a large plus in any weapon.

I have a 4.25 aluminum Para and it's been flawless for four years!  Never missed a beat...

I have a S&W full size 1911 bought several years ago,...Loved it as soon as I picked it up. Than loved it even more after a trip to the S&W Performance Center for some "tweaking"...

They got the platform right and is a credit to the Browning design. I would love a version of the "E".....Thanks for the report.

Timothy, Fully agree on Para, they are a quality company.  Always serviced mine very well, including replacing my magazines when they thought they were the problem.

Quick update, 200 rds, cleaned twice and a couple of failures to feed.  Still breing in period so not too concerned.  Extrmely accurare gun.  I would recommend this 1911 to anyone looking for a 4in with lots of custom features.

I am a S&W 1911 fan.  My carry gun is a 1911PD commander that I had bobtailed.  I wish this gun had come out earlier as it has many features that I would like to see on my PD - checker front strap, serrated slide top, beefier extractor.

This gun is head to head competition for the Kimber Super Carry Pro and , IMHO, beats the pants off of it for $300 - 400 less.  Plus it is a true commander length with a barrel bushing, unlike the Kimber with its bull barrel and "tools required for field stripping" guide rod.

There are only two things I would change on it if it were mine; install a GI guide rod & plug and a single-sided thumb safety.  YMMV

Let us know how it settles in and how the finish holds up once you start carrying it.

I have found that when I am only having minimal FTF's, I can trace it to a particular magazine....... might be worth a check.

Great to hear you are getting to know her well.   ;D  :D
