What would you do? - Mob attacks diners
« on: May 20, 2012, 10:31:09 AM »
You are enjoying lunch when this breaks out.

http://www.suntimes.com/12640681-761/suspects-wielding-hammers-and-batons-attack-diners-at-tinley-park-restaurant.html
Quote
It was the middle of the lunch rush Saturday, and Mike Winston was working in the kitchen of his Tinley Park restaurant, the Ashford House, when a waitress screamed a fight had broken out in the dining room.

Police call the melee at the restaurant a targeted assault by a mob that Winston said wielded metal batons and hammers. Ten diners were hurt in the attack, and three of those were hospitalized.

Tinley Park police had five suspected assailants in custody, and Winston said 18 young men, all wearing hooded jackets and obscuring their faces with scarves and other coverings, stormed into the restaurant.

First, I'm thinking that Illinois really needs to allow concealed carry.  That place is pathetic.

Second, if I'm at that table I'm I'll hit slide lock in about three seconds and then I'll need to start beating people with my empty gun.  If I'm at a different table it might take me four seconds to slide lock as it would probably require more time to aim at that distance.

Remember, "hoodies" are just a fashion statement.

Odd, race wasn't even hinted at, as in "a gang of hoodie-wearing black youth..." Not even picture of the arrested suspects.

Tinley Park used to be hard core white lower class, but trending upwards economically. That said, it is bordered to the north by Chicago, and some not nice neighborhoods.

Wonder what the premise was for the targeted attack?

Just another day in Darth Rahmie-kins' people's republik of illinois hell-hole worker's paradise.

Yeah, I know he's mayor of Chicago, but Chicago runs Cook County and Cook County pretty much runs the state - and Tinley is still in Cook County.

I'm leaning more toward visiting anarchists at this time, just based on their choice of weapons.  Not that it matters.

There should be at least a half a dozen of them waiting their turn with the Crook Cook County coroner.

I used to play these "what would you do if ..." games a lot.  However, I learned that my reaction is always the same regardless of the setting or situation:

1.  Recognize potential threat;
2.  Move to cover and/or exit;
3.  Continue to assess potential threat(s);
4.  React accordingly to stop any threat that presents itself.

Simple list, but no plan can be articulated unless it is actually happening.
If I appear taller than other men it is because I am standing on the shoulders of others.

I just posted this on the DR thread, before I caught this one,.... :-\

However, this is Chicago....Fork them?

When in a "disarmed public" city, a tactical cane? Good chair. But there was 18 of them.....tough call in a disarmed city.

Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."

There are no dangerous weapons.
Only dangerous people.
Unarmed in a restaurant ?
HA, I laugh at you !
How about throwing hot coffee on some and clubbing one with the pot ?
Slash a couple more with the broken pot.
Use a pepper shaker to weight your fist like a roll of dimes ?
The list is endless.

True, but against 18? The "one" employee that fought back had five on him doing the kick to the head routine.... Injuring a couple means more BG's come right to you...Better call up your inner Steven Segall against that many.

If it were a pool hall at least the balls and cues would have helped.....

They needed Chuck Norris... ::)

They needed customers who weren't gutless sheep.
