Officer shot wife while showing gun to friends
« on: June 04, 2012, 10:48:00 AM »
Guess who ain't gettin' any for a while....... I would call this a Negligent Discharge as opposed to an Accidental Discharge.  Thoughts?

HARRISBURG (AP) — Authorities say a Harrisburg police officer shot his wife in the buttocks as he was showing his department-issued gun to family and friends during a weekend cookout at his home.

Dauphin County District Attorney Ed Marsico said Wednesday that the gun issued to Officer William Owens discharged and struck the officer’s wife.

Marsico said he believes the shooting was an accident but charges could be filed if an investigation determines Owens acted recklessly.

Owens’ wife was treated at a hospital after the incident Saturday evening.

A city spokesman said the officer has been suspended without pay pending the outcome of an investigation.
Guns don't kill people, bullets kill people.

Any unintended discharge of a firearm is negligent.

More proof that some cops shouldn't be able to use a butter knife let alone a firearm!

He and his wounded wife could form a support group with this couple  http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow/florida-man-mistakes-girlfriend-hog-shoots-her-211904311.html
Bravery and stupidity are often synonymous.  So are cowardice and intelligence.

Are we sure that was a mistake?  ;D  ;D  ;D Most cops I've met aren't very good shots.

Yeah, yeah, before all you cops out there jump down my throat I DO know a few cops who are good shots but they are few and far between.

This is pretty much a slam dunk.  When someone gets a hole they weren't born with because you were playing with your handgun, it qualifies as reckless IMHO.

Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. The only thing you can’t do is ignore them

This is true.  Just because someone is a police officer that fact does not mean they like guns....or even think the public should have firearms.  Thankfully, here in Oklahoma many of the officers do like guns and think that the public should have firearms...there are those, however, who do not like the public having weapons and have hassled people I know when stopped.  But it does do good to complain here in Oklahoma...the guys who hassle citizens about guns usually end up on the bottom of the barrel.
