Taurus 709 Slim question..
« on: June 08, 2012, 01:31:07 PM »
I read a short little suggestion that the Aturus 709 Slim has a problem with the frame, that has been recently redesigned.
What can anybody tell me about it? I still don't have a BUG that I want to carry (and can afford right now).
I'm about two days from trying to pick one up, because they're very reasonably priced..
Am I about to spend a little money to blow half my hand off?

I would check with Taurus. They seem to have some quality control problems, but I think some people just like to complain.

The Kahr is an extra $150 that I can't part with these days. (Plus, that trigger is so long it, takes two trips to get it there.  ;))

Look at the S&W Shield. Looks pretty nice.

I have personally seen a 709 Slims frame blown out on the range.  And yep, the guy was using factory ammo.  But, have seen a Kel Tec .380s frame blow too, just this week.  I even know a guy that blew up a Glock.

Here's the Gun Blast article, but not about any redesigned frame.

Will work for ammo

I ended up ordering a LC9 after all.. It'll be next week before I get it, but there it is..
I just have a hard time trusting Taurus. The few that I've had had terrible triggers, (revolvers admittedly) and should've come with a sharpie.. I'm a little less picky as I get older, it seems. I just want a pocket 9 that I can reasonably expect to go boom when I need it to..
Now I've got to find a holster for it..
I had to go to the V.A. this week, reminding me that I really would appreciate a pocket/BUG.. I climbed back into that shoulder holster in the parking garage and I was glad that it was as late as it was when I finally got out..

You will enjoy the LC9. Think you made a good decision.
