Jensen Beach man arrested on 2 counts of aggravated assault

JENSEN BEACH, Fla. -
A Jensen Beach man was arrested Monday after he pulled a gun on another man who was smoking a cigarette while pumping gas, deputies said.



The incident occurred at the ABS Gas & Go on Jensen Beach Boulevard about 9:15 p.m.
 
According to a Martin County Sheriff's Office report, Tyler Blum was pumping gas with a cigarette in his mouth when John McCarthy approached him and yelled at him to put out the cigarette.
 
After Blum reassured McCarthy that his cigarette wasn't going to start a fire, McCarthy ran to his car and pulled out a handgun, pointing it at Blum's face, the report stated.
 
Blum's girlfriend told deputies that McCarthy also pointed the gun at her while she was sitting in her car and said, "He should have put the cigarette out," the report stated.
 
When deputies arrived, they detained McCarthy, who was standing at the counter inside the gas station. Deputies said they also found a handgun on the driver's seat of McCarthy's car.
 
McCarthy was arrested on two counts of aggravated assault.
