Marlin help?

I want to put a fiber optic sight on a Marlin Model 60 (.22). How to you get the original rear sight off?

It should have a side-to-side dovetail groove. It's just hard to tell it has a dovetail because the sight covers it up.
You can use either a screw-type sight tool, or a hammer & brass/nylon punch, and gently/not-so-gently push it out from left to right.
That's left to right from the REAR of the rifle looking down the barrel like you were firing it.

"Should".. That's a dreaded word..
The new sights come with two screws, http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=26037/Product/MARLIN-RIMFIRE-FIRE-SIGHTS I have no tools.. I left everything I had in Maine in 09.
I got tired of having "New Gun Fever" and bought a new Model 60, but this time in Stainless. Got a good deal, (from Buds) I think. $253 delivered. The sights run another $30. Everything is creeping up in price, and I think the Marlin shoots just as straight as the 10/22. Can't do as much accessorizing, but I'm a bigger fan of "function first".
Back in the south, everything I pick up from here on out will be stainless if I can help it.
This one will give me an "extra" .22, that will presumably find it's way into the car, stuffed in a box. It's an AR-7 that packs away in the stock. Not too bad a place for it, I guess.
I asked Buds if they could sell me/install a set of the sights before they ship it. I just bought the thing an hour ago. I hope they will..
If so, I still have the one I bought them for..

All this to shoot a possum in the middle of the night..

Damn that much trouble to change the sight, sneak up on the possum and use it as a club!

Don't forget the "excuse factor" in justification for now having picked up a new .22.. (The 10/22 was more expensive, you know.) If I had the money I could sell myself a new truck too..
I'm gonna have to be careful.. I've been complaining about the Homeowners Insurance about to be due.. She doesn't know I bought the gun yet..  :o

OK, let me put it another way.... LOL....

Every Marlin 60 I have handled, including the two I have, has the rear sight dovetailed in. It is just hard to see because the dovetail is cut so very shallow in the barrel (nothing like a 1911, for example)...and the sight itself is made of stamped and rolled spring steel and overlaps the edges of the dovetail.
I just went and got one of mine and double checked and it is a dovetail.

Try using a wooden dowel and a hammer to drive it out....that is what I usually try first before going to something heavier. If that fails, go to the hardware store and get a brass punch.

On those sights you have from Brownells, the new sight goes back in from right to left and the set-screw locks it in. The aft screw adjusts the sight vertically.

Here is a video that shows the process.
It is a different Marlin rifle than the 60, but the sights are the same type and fit the same (most mfg's use the same on different guns to save cost).
The process is the same for the Model 60 up to the 1:25 minute mark.

Well, as for her not knowing yet, I'm getting up ad 0:dark-thirty to take her "yard saleing" tomorrow. I suspect I'll be babbling here in about seven hours from now with a big glass of coffee..  :P
