The silver lining to today's SCOTUS debacle
« on: June 28, 2012, 04:30:14 PM »

The GOP-led House voted Thursday to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress for failing to provide key information pertaining to Operation Fast and Furious, making Holder the first sitting Cabinet member to be held in contempt.

The vote was 255-67 with one lawmaker voting not present. Seventeen Democrats broke ranks to vote in favor of contempt, while two Republicans voted against the measure.

The vote was preceded by a heated floor debate.

“It’s important to remember how we got here,” House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, said during a speech ahead of the vote. “The Justice Department has not provided the facts and information we requested. … It’s our constitutional duty to find out.”

The GOP-led House took the step over the alleged failure to provide additional information about the failed gun-running operation known as Fast and Furious which was run by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives -- a division of the Justice Department led by Holder.

Democrats walked out of the chamber ahead of the vote.

“What is happening here is shameful," said Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., who argued House Republicans are more politically motivated in attacking Holder than getting to the bottom of the failed operation, in which at least two of the guns were connected to the fatal shooting of U.S. border agent Brian Terry.

Lawmakers voted against a proposal by Rep. John Dingell, D-Mich., to return the matter to the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

The house is on a roll.

Hold the ones who walked out in contempt now.

I say let them walk. Then when the house starts passing bills without them, the clowns can go back to thier home states and explain to their constituents that they wouldn't vote on important legislation because they were acting like petulent children.

I watched most of the debates!

Dingell had 5-1/4 minutes on the clock, gave Pelosi a minute and she pontificated for nearly 20!  When she walked away, Dingell still had a minute left!

Congressional math...and reaffirmation that Pelosi is an idiot!

Their constituents won't give a rat's ass about that, unless it was legislation to cut off the freebies, then all hell will break loose, but int he wrong direction.

I really need to stop posting, I have been fuming all day since I read the SCOTUS decision. Roberts is a complete moron letting this into law thinking he has somehow done us all a favor by roping in Congress and making this a political statement before the election. The only saving grace to this ruling is that maybe - MAYBE!!! -  the effing pubbies will grow a pair and actually do something to win both houses, and then dismantle this monstrous POS.

I ain't holding my breath!  >:(

Like Shakespeare said, A plague on both your houses!!!!!   >:(

Damn, I am pissed, I can barely type!   >:(

I think I will become the new Cato. Instead of calling for the destruction of Carthage,  . . . . . nevermind.  I'll just use this -  >:(  - a lot!   >:(

Remember the "walk out" was members of the Congressional Black Caucus, because it's just "whitey" pickin' on Holder because he's black.

They have to play the race card, they even trotted out Sharpton (where did he get any shred of credibility again?),......Oh that's right,....the Tiwana Brawley and Duke Lacrosse Rape debacle,....(my bad),..... :-X

It's been a (insert expletive) freak show this week....

Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."

If I understand it, being found in Contempt of Congress comes with up to 1 year in the pokey and something like a $1000 fine.  The only problem is, it's up to the Attorney General of the US to sentence anyone found in contempt.

Maybe Holder would like to take a year long, all expenses paid by the state trip to spend some time with "his people".
Bravery and stupidity are often synonymous.  So are cowardice and intelligence.

"We Americans have been a rebellious band of freedom loving vagabonds from the very beginning. Our freedom from the crown and tyranny would not exist had it not been for the gun. That's a tradition we like to hold on to.  The same can't be said for the rest of you 'Subjects of the Queen'."--said to a Canadian friend who just doesn't get it.

Well, it seems Ann Barnhardt is less than pleased with the theory of a Silver Lining in any of this.

It isn’t just Lindsey Graham that is a stupid, stupid jackass. If you’re buying any of this, “Everything’s fine! We actually WON on ObamaCare, and Roberts is a genius!” jackassery, then go look in the mirror and behold the Sombrero of all Asshats.

Roberts is not a “Machiavellian genius.” Roberts is a moral degenerate lifetime Washington D.C. politico, who is well known in the beltway to be borderline obsessed with his image. In other words, Chief Justice John Roberts emotionally operates on the same level as the average twelve year old girl, and just sold out not just the Republic, the Constitution and the entire American populace, but really the entire planet, because now that the United States is no more, the forces of evil will run absolutely rampant over the rest of the planet. And Roberts did it so that a bunch of coke-snorting sodomites and psychopaths in Georgetown will pretend to like him – for about five minutes.
