After watching the "Gun Stories" episode on the Garand I've been Jonesing for one.  The wife gave the go-ahead yesterday, so I got up at 4:30 this morning, drove to Camp Perry (3+ hours), bought a Garand, and drove home.  I had to be back by 1:30 so my wife could go to work (missed by 4 minutes).

All kidding aside, I've been wanting one for years.  My dad carried one in the Marines.  He's going to turn 77 this year, and I want to take him to the range to shoot a Garand one more time.  I don't think he's even handled a gun since he left the Corps.

I'll have more photos soon.  I just took it apart, lightly sanded the stock and applied a light coat of tung oil.  Waiting...

Close.  You have to show proof of citizenship, affiliate club membership, and training or match participation.  There's a list of documents they'll accept on the website.  Since I'd purchased from there before I only had to show current club membership.  Come to think of it, they didn't even ask to see my ID.

Since the National Matches started yesterday, it was busy.

I'd like to think little ol' humble me played a small role in your road trip... 8) Very, very nice Winchester/Garand. I joined the Garand Collectors Assoc.  for $25 a year as my club affiliation, than got my gun club signed on as a CMP member org. 15% discount on purchases.

Get more en bloc's,......and stick to the 150gr. rds.  New family heirloom. CONGRATS!!!!

Yes, TW, you did help spur me on.  Now I need to get to the range.

I bought 25 clips at the CMP store, as well as 2 cans of surplus Greek ammo (400 rounds).  One of the ammo cans is now loaded with full clips just a'waiting' for me.   ;D

Can't wait to hear the ping!

P.S.  Any hints on where I can get a good sling for it?

Why yes,...yes I do.....For the leather version I put on mine. Top notch quality. Very well priced. Exact replica, and I mean exact replica of the m-1907 Garand sling, complete with brass hardware. Also got my 1916 Luger holster from Steve as well...

Get the 51" totally adjustable to shoe-string tight if you prefer, and long enough to adjust to the forearm support as trained with back in the day.

You are going to really enjoy lighting your Garand up.....Congrats again......they always draw a crowd of admirers, from old Veterans, to the young "black rifle" crowd,,,,,they always give a hat tip to the Garand.
