I saw this last week. It did my heart good to see it, too.
It makes me wonder why not a double stack though. Weight, I guess?

It does make me wonder, but I'm not sure of the quality of double stack 1911 mags.  Besides if I were carrying in combat I'd rather have Wilson Mags (well, I use Wilson Mags but you know what I mean)

1.  It is a proven 1911, so why mess with it;
2.  Weight shouldn't matter, because 100 rounds is 100 rounds whether in 12 magazines or nine magazines;
3.  Smaller grip size with single stack.
If I appear taller than other men it is because I am standing on the shoulders of others.

Springfield Armory was also a contender. I don't know if Colt beat them on quality or price, or something else. It's hard to imagine Colt being cheaper.

I first read this report here:

I much prefer the 1911 to the Beretta M9.  Unfortunately, this will only be for MarSOC and Force Recon and not all Marine units.  Ooh Rah.

Indeed. Frankly most of the guys who will  be issued one probably already have two at home they'd rather carry. I still prefer a Glock for capacity and eas of of maintainence, but I'd take a 1911 over an M9 anyday.

That is a fine looking firearm.  Lots of stopping power needed for fanatical terrorists.
