Since very early on I have been a part of DRTV Forum and I enjoy it and appreciate it. I've looked at a few other forums, but never joined any. Recently however, I joined a NJ gun forum. I thought it would be good "local source" stuff, and it IS. It's got some state news and topics that concern those of us who are in a state with tons of ambiguous rules that are difficult to understand but carry huge penalties if misinterpreted and broken.
I'm a Life member of NRA - I don't always agree, but it's the biggest damn barking dog we've got, and you have to feed it. I joined NJ2A Association. They can't change things but they work on it, and they are very aggressive about attacking local jurisdictions that tack on extra requirements or take longer than legal to process all the BS we put up with here. It's all good.
Having said that, I try to contribute, but I mostly lurk. There seem to be cliques- it's inevitable I guess thinking about us at DRTV, and aside of a few obvious individuals who are well informed there's a lot of uninformed question and discussion and a LOT of tinfoil going around. I don't like to be judgemental, but there's just a WHOLE LOT of discussion that I really don't need to take part in.
The statewide WTS board is pretty interesting though.
Having said ALL that, my conclusion is that, with the exception of Billy Goat Gruff and the few trolls we suffer here, I consider this the cream of the cream. MB, the Marshalls, and the other contributors have set a site with a high bar for discourse. Yeah, we enjoy our "fun bags" and our Barry bashing and the occasional tin foil rant, but the advice here is good, the attitude is stellar, and I have a family here that I know I can turn to and that I care about.
Just thought I'd blurt out a little gay crap on a saturday night after expending myself at a gig. Leaves me a little vulnerable sometimes, it does.
No, really. The point is...this is the coolest place I've ever found to talk guns and I love the fact that I can dial up any of the principals and tell them what-for or tell them I appreciate them. I have a lot of friends and some brothers here. It's simply the best.
