Well, I did it........   :D  :D  :D
After 20 years of off-again/on-again looking, wanting, and never being in the right place at the right time...... I finally purchased an AR (two, actually).
For years, I could find rifles, but didn't have the spare funds...... and then when I had funds, the prices were ridiculous. I was seriously looking back in 2008 and BHO got elected and the price doubled practically over night and I've been waiting on the iron to get hot again so I could strike. I doubt I'll ever find a new one for the price I paid again.....especially if Der Leader gets re-appointed to the throne.

Anyhooo......
I got a DPMS flat-top, with the M-4 style stock and 16" barrel, and two 30 round mags....... it is a very basic model, but that is what I wanted so I could add/change things as I can afford. The tag price was $700 +tax, but because we (my son and I) bought two, they sold them to us for $650 flat, out the door....... which is about $100 (pre-tax) cheaper than anywhere else I've looked.

I hated to come off the money since I am preparing to have a new roof installed.... (but that is what the bank is for, I guess  ;D ) but that was just too good a price to pass up.

Now I need to scope it to see what it'll do.

Of course that means a red dot for the carbine and a scope for the NM.  ;D

Yep.

On the way home my son looked over with a straight face and said, "We just bought a couple of real ammo-burners didn't we?"  ;D
I just said, "Yep."

I have a small stockpile of decent ammo, but scope, irons, and mags are in order.

Thanks all.

I have a couple of scopes I can try just for initial plinking and get it up and running.... until I can get a dedicated set up.
The place I bought these at has Eotechs for under $400 (will have to compare and see if that is a good deal) and some Millets, Bushnell, and Redfields for decent prices. Maybe at Christmas I can swing a scope that is fitting for 200 yard and under target/plinking/home defense.
