Its getting harder to travel to Kalifornia
« on: September 03, 2012, 08:21:32 PM »
This week will be the 4th or 5th trip down there this year, although I'll be flying into San Jose this time and not John Wayne (Orange County).  I guess I feel naked without access to my guns and given the state of the economy in CA with the looming threat of "The Big One" the anxiety factor is growing.  I think MB is onto something with his take down lever/pistol package, if I do this much more I'll be looking into putting one together myself.

For those of you that travel there more regularly how do you do it?

And for those of you that live there, I weep with you for it is so far from what it was 40 years ago.

Don't worry Magoo!

Kalifornia is a wonderful place where flowers grow out of your ass and no one ever has a harsh word for anyone!  The overwhelming feeling of serenity will abound and you'll feel as if no harm could come from anything, anywhere!  Breath in the cool air of utopia!  You'll never want to leave!

(sarcasm)....lived there before it became unmanageable!  Never again...

When my grandparents pass away, I will be taking my wife and son out of here.  They are the only reason I am still here.  My wife can work litterly anywhere in the country.  My skill set and biz since can too go just about anywhere and make money.

Stay out of ghettos and bars and you should be alright. I lived in Alameda county for 2 years, 1 mile from Hayward and about 2 miles from Oakland, and while there were shootings and robberies all around the area I never had a bit of trouble.
And that included walking around the residential areas every night.

I grew up in that area.  Like Tom says, being smart about where/when you're out is "the best defense."  Silicone Valley (San Jose, Fremont, ect) isn't all bad.  It's South Bay (Oakland specifically) that's got more of the problems.
When seconds mean the difference between life and death, the police will be minutes away.

You are either SOLVING the problem, or you ARE the problem.

I worked in Oakland and my advice is if you can avoid it, do so.

I'll second Tom's point.

Bunny and I lived in Santa Rosa for several years and I worked in "The City."  It was not an entirely bad experience.  The worst restaurants in San Francisco are better than the best of other places.

Still, the City of Oakland is a cesspool.  If someone would nuke the place, many of Kalifornistan's economic woes would be resolved since it would eliminate a huge welfare drain.  Drugs, gangs and crime abound.  Even if you are well armed, it just isn't a safe place to be.

The rest of Kalifornistan is just sad.  The Dummycraps have taken a remarkable state (with mountains, beaches, deserts, and great year-around climate) and turned it into an expensive nanny state where the 45% who work must support the 55% who won't, and where regulations make it increasingly difficult for businesses to remain profitable.

I still visit from time to time--my daughter and grand kids live there--but I suffer anxiety when I do.  The way things are set up there makes the victim into the criminal, and exonerates the actual criminal.  Heaven forbid you should use one of those evil guns to protect yourself, your family, or your property.  You'd never see daylight.

When I go, I drive out and I keep a cache of weapons locked up in precise conformance to Kalifornistan law. I wouldn't expect to get to them to protect myself or Bunny in an emergency, but if TEOTWAWKI occurs, I'll have some form of defense at hand.

Good luck.

Sounds like they need to change the state flag to the Union Jack.   :-\

That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."

Actually ca has very good sd laws and has for a very long time.  Unlike some of the more famous  states you hear about latly.    it just can be hard to get a ccw ( or very easy depending on the county, mine was about $100 and took 4 days to process the paper work)   we have no need to retreat and can use deadly force to prevent grave bodly harm ( rape for example) apon our selfs or some one else.  The way the law works is you need to have a reasonable fear of death/ bodly harm.  Thats in your head, not some one elses.
