Pay It Forward: trading for gun parts ammo etc.
« on: September 29, 2012, 03:55:00 AM »
I got this idea from another board, and I think its a great idea. We all have junk; parts, holsters, mags, ammo etc. that we aren't using. Here's the idea. You offer up something for free. If someone accepts, they do the same with another useful item that another board member might want, if they don't ship, they get negative feedback.
I'll start. I've got an NIB Tapco stock for a Saiga in basic black, about $60 retail  (counts as 2 922R parts). Yours free. Just PM me. Just put a useful item up for free, and the circle will continue. We all know each other so trust isn't an issue. This way, we can all clean out our closets and benefit. Think of it as a neighborhood garage sale, but without the money, just trading each other's stuff around in an indirect manner.

PS If this works, we should start a permanent thread for it. Lets say 20  posts to be eligible if it sticks.

Of all the things I've offered here, most I've given away and even paid the postage!  I think I've gotten about ten bucks for a holster once but given several hundred dollars worth of brass away for free!  Charity begins at home as they say.

Maybe Marshal could setup a "Give-away or Swap" forum.  I mean, if we can have a forum for cooking and recipes.....

Just call that forum  Swap Meet

Might not be a bad thing...... sort of to differentiate from the classified section.
I have sent a few things, like Tim mentioned, to some folks over the years and still have a stash of parts like 1911 parts, holsters and the like that I could part with.

Only one possible draw back I can see.

While most of us would be glad to pass on our unused items to others of our "Family" here I suspect it might not all be going to the family.

Like the number of one time posters we get when there is give away running, I'd think we might get some one time, or multi-time browsers of that forum.

"Be sure to check the DRTV Swap Meet forum for what you want before you spend money on it.  It's free there."

Worst case would be someone requesting all the stuff to be used for resale.

When I've had something to give, I go private and work my way through the list of friends.  If after that no one wants it then I'm more than willing to give it to anyone.

That's what I usually do also.

Basically, what I'm looking to accomplish here is to have sort of a "scrap yard" or "used book bin" for members. You browse what's there and if you want it, its yours. You pay shipping, but you put something of your own in the bin. It would save us a lot of money and let us get some cool stuff, while cleaning out our junk drawers.
