Restarting the draft so unemployment would go down?
« on: October 06, 2012, 11:09:10 AM »
Tom posted this idea in another thread

My first thought was there would be a whole bunch of kids who'd be too fat to go.

Maybe boot camp would whip them into shape.

My second thought was whether females would be subject to the draft???

Do they have ti register for selective service now?

I mean we already have female F-16 pilots.

Then my third thought was just how much cronyism would there be involved now... Senator's kids getting deferrments and all that.

Lawyers would get rich settling those questions.
But from the stand point of a typical liberal meaningless snow job it would not matter if the draftees were later ordered released by SCOTUS as long as they were out of the labor market for the election.
It is just like Solyndra, for a mere $500,000,000 Obama got to do a photo op saying "We are advancing green energy".
The fact the place was out of business 6 months later doesn't matter since the camera's were long gone by then.
It is standard liberal practice to do meaningless things that don't actually address a problem just so they can say "We did something".
The Clinton AWB is a good example, it did not actually "ban" any guns, it simply interfered with "scary looking" features like bayonet lugs, during the height of the "ban" I personally bought 2 MAK 90's  1/2 a dozen 30 round mags and an SKS with a 30 round fixed mag.

It's all based on appearance, substance has no place in the equation.

Okay... I gotta ask, quality wise what is your impression of say the current crop of AK-47 WASR's when compared to the MAK90's?

I'd like to know the answer to that too. As to the OP? What are we going to do with all those draftees? Unless we put them on the border, I think that we'd get more bang for our buck out of  reviving the old CCC and put them to work building useful stuff here at home.

AK's are what they are, the thumb hole stock on the MAK 90 was an unmitigated POS.
Think 2X8 with a hole drilled through it.
That was back in the days before Tapco got popular.
Probably the reason Tapco got popular . ;D

FQ, With troops serving 2 or more combat tours in a single 4 year enlistment we could use those draftees to give the professionals a little more down time.

Thing is, unless we're just a talking infantry, our stuff is so high tech that I'm not sure our systems are geared for draftees. Yeah, maybe you might draft a kid from MIT or even a technical school, but do you really want some 19 year old out of an inner city high school who doesn't want to be there, fixing your chopper, or runing your ADA systems? With our volunteer military, they alll WANT to be there and so are motivated to learn. Take an ignoramus slacker who doesn't want to be there and what good is he?

FQ, go back and read my first reply to Tyler, the purpose has nothing to do with military effectiveness . the suggestion was made on the basis of effective political deception of the sheep.
Besides, with the court challenges that would be filed the program would not have lasted much beyond the election.
The only important fact is that on election day unemployment would have been near zero.
This is the difference between those coffee shop theorists you studied and the realists like Sun Tzu and Sam Giancana that I read up on.

Except my army would kick your army's ass, as it wouldn't be full of dead wood. ;D Draft if you must, but don't unload them on the poor military, put them to work building roads or refurbing schools and parks and low income housing. Just don't let them near a 10 million dollar chopper.

Mission focus young FQ, the mission of this administration is not to win conflicts, it is to get "the Great Won" reelected.
When you are batting for the other team you don't want effective troops, you do want zero unemployment on election day.
