You can lead a RepuBICan to water but you can't make him drink.  But you can hold him under until he sees the light  ;D

Just have to figure out a way to modify his belief that taxes need to be raised, he's a politician after all and by definition has no moral compunction to stand behind his campaign promises.  ;D

And then just make sure they meet a better representative in the next primary besides he can't raise/lower taxes by himself.

The State has a $5 BILLION  debt and a large portion of the population is illegal aliens draining the system with out contributing, they have already diverted all their "targeted" revenue, (money meant for veterans goes to the general fund, highway funds from gas taxes are diverted to the general fund etc. ) And ask TAB about the atrocious fee's and licensing costs.
In order to stay solvent the State has no choice but to either cut entitlements or raise taxes.
Which one do YOU think would get passed ?

Sadly, I agree with Tom here. We, nationally, will have to do both. Raise taxes and cut spending to dig ourselves out of this hole. Don't give me BO here, because it started with Reagan, actually Nixon, but even if we trace it back to FDR it doesn't matter, its not about blame. We're just stuck here, and step one is getting ourselves out of debt. We impose austerity measures on little countries though the World Bank and IMf. Mayybe its time we took some of our medicine, because its not bad medicine, it just tastes foul. Cut spending, raise taxes and get out of debt. Once you're free and clear, don't ever fall into that trap again. Its not news to anyone who has gotten into credit card trouble, it shouldn't be to the people. I'd rather do without than owe money to the Chinese. It will suck in the short run, but I'd as soon not leave my children a mountain of debt.

It does go back to FDR and we can very accurately lay the blame on the misguided fiscal theories pursued by the democratic party based on the equally incorrect theory of the "nanny state".
Also, FQ's reference to Reagan is misleading.
Prior to the Obama administration, which has dispensed with the Constitutionally mandated annual budget, budgets were set, not by the President but by Congress and that body has been controlled by the Dems for decades with the exception of 2 years under Clinton.

Actuality that would be six years Tom, and the GOP controlled both Houses from 1994-2006. That's twelve years. Since taxing and spending bills come from the GOP controlled House, how is this the Dems fault? I'm making popcorn, so please don't rush to answer.  ;D

Because it started in 1933 From then until today the Republicans have controlled spending through Senate leadership for
18 out of 79 years

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Party_leaders_of_the_United_States_Senate#List_of_party_leaders

And they have also controlled the House, for a grand total of 12 years since 1931

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Speakers_of_the_United_States_House_of_Representatives

That's how it's the DEMS fault.

I don't except the premise that raising taxes raises revenue, it often does the exact opposite.  So if we are in debt and we need to raise the amount of money coming into the .gov coffers we need to quit punishing the achievers and just get out of their way while trimming .gov starting with redundant agencies with obsolete missions then slowly start helping people get off .gov assistance and closing the "IN" door to these .gov handouts.

Raising taxes will remove incentive for people at the top, but making everyone pay taxes spreads the load and encourages those at the lower portion to move up the ladder.  Everyone pays his/her way-fair and square.

I think that "TAX THE RICH" folks are more out for "justice" than revenue.
It's inaccurate but it's true... If you think that (Government) money comes from a growing, stable, healthy economy, you're gonna have a different view than one who thinks that it comes from evil-rich people and the evil-bank that Government doesn't control..
A good (proper) education would solve so much...
With friends like these, who needs hallucinations!..

I agree completely Reagan and Newt proved it a couple times.
Another thing that works great is cutting spending to the bone.
But this is Ca we're talking about   :-\

They will either figure it out, collapse, or be propped up by the other 49 states by way of the Federal government.  The latter being the most likely in today's political climate.  I can already here it, "Kalifornia is too big to fail, we must do something for the children, all those poor/starving/obese kids in Malibu need our help"  ::)
