Happy Open Carry Day, Oklahoma.

It's Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012.  We get to open carry in Oklahoma, if....we have a concealed carry license.

I will still carry concealed, but it keeps an unscrupulous DA from charging me with a felony if I accidentally expose my weapon.  And, I might carry openly when I'm walking around home just because I can access the weapon more quickly if attacked by a pack of dogs.

AZ has open carry without the c/c-permit required.  When I visit family out there, I sometimes o/c, but after nearly two decades of c/c, I just feel more comfortable with everything covered up. 

I would note that although AZ enacted its open carry law some time ago, the streets do not flow with the blood of innocents.  In point of fact, it is fairly rare to see a gun on anyone's hip unless you're out in the desert areas.  Then, they are likely loaded with snake shot.

One benefit of open carry is that it will work to offset the indoctrination that is going on in our schools that even an image or finger positioning of a gun is abhorrent and shameful.

It might even work to start some adults thinking about it when they see folks walking around open carrying without a trail of dead bodies in their wake.

I've always found it a manifestation of the "Ostrich Syndrome" when folks become extremely alarmed and agitated by the sight of a person carrying openly,  particularly police officers.

Unless a criminal is insane, they won't go about advertising they are armed prior to their nefarious acts, so someone open carrying should be less suspect than anyone not open carrying.

Further, the justification for the publication of CC permit holder lists by news papers is always that their neighbors have the right to know who might be carrying a weapon.  Well, open carry lets them know without all that news print wasted.

Honestly, it comes down to:   If I don't see the weapon open carried, I wont hyperventilate and have a panic attack because I don't know it is there.

Just like an ostrich with it's head in the sand.

Nothing against open carry except it seems to put the pistol in a position to be bumped and banged during the course of the day while most concealed carry options keep the pistol closer to the body and more protected from the vicissitudes of daily life .

Additionally, an open carried pistol holster should have some type of security retention feature to prevent curious or malicious hands gaining access.

It does advertise that  you are armed, but less so than a police officer.

Just imo, but ocing is great for "working" , but not a for a sd gun.   I know many disagree, but I would rather go about my biz with out people taking a 2nd look at me.   just my $.02

In Ohio I can carry in a bar or restaurant as long as I am not drinking.  I carry concealed rather than oc because I don't want to go thru the hassle if someone freaks out.
