Thoughts about BullPups

I am looking at a FNH FS 2000 CQB  bullpup, the price is $1900.00 it's chambered in .223. Any thoughts about bullpups?  I have never owned a weapon made by FNH any thoughts? Constructive feed back is appreciated ;D

 I believe a well designed Bullpup is better the an SBR due to Federal BS, also the muzzle blast of a 7.5 inch AR is no fun to be next to at the range.

They're cute and short but I've never been a fan of having the action right under my face. (Or arm if you're  shooting from the hip)

FNH has a real good reputation, but I have never been a fan of the bull pup design.
The compactness is a big plus, but they are stock heavy and awkward to reload

I've never owned or shot one, but have considered it.

There are some drawbacks, some of which a good design might mitigate.  Some have already been mentioned.

1.  The chamber is next to your nose.

2.  Unless it ejects out the bottom or out the front it won't be ambidextrous.   

3.  Reloading it will be akin to putting a magazine into your arm pit, unless it has a tube magazine.

4.  Sight radius for iron sights will be reduced over that of a standard layout.

5.  The trigger linkage must be longer than that of a standard design.  Might be a fine trigger pull, but the potential for drag and flex is greater.

As for the specific rifle, I'd buy it if it floats your boat (with the above listed caveats), but only if it will also take 5.56. Getting one that is only .223 is cutting deep into your ammo options.

Having shot the FNH FS2000 I can say it is hands down my favorite 223 rifle. The rounds actually travel forward along the barrel and exit out of the front of the gun. I think every 4th for 3rd round pushes the next one out. The ergo's are by far the best yet although I was disappointed that the one I shot only had a left side charging handle and it was not movable. So not 100% ambi but for all of the righties that have endured a right side charging handle it shouldn't be that bad.

I thought it was incredibly accurate, it was light, everything was real easy to learn and I dig the secrete door on the top of the action that lets you know if there is one in the chamber. If I could own just one bull pup this would be in a heated race to the top of my list.
For the record it does fire 5.56 or .223.

Frosty,

      Ask to try one. For the cost of a box or two of ammo, you get to fire it, reload it, disassemble it, clean it...learn for yourself if the quality offsets the quirks for you. Then buy it anyway.
