A good cast iron skillet is a wedding gift idea I got from an older couple a while back.  It seems the woman was from an abusive past and used her's to "even the odds" on the way out the door. 

But good quality cast iron is always going to be there if taken care of even if its never needed for self-defense.

Plus they get better with age if properly seasoned and treated. I have three that I inherited from my grand mother (two mini-pans that are perferct for two eggs) and a large one. They are as slippery as tephlon, and you can put them in the oven. The non-stick pans are great, but only last a few years till they get scratched and you need to replace it. The old cast iron just gets better by the year. Gee, might there be a lesson here?

Mrs. T and I traditionally give a nice, tasteful 8X10 inch photo frame for the happy couple's official wedding picture. No points for creativity, but seldom do they get more than one.
