LONG RANGE .22 LR SHOOTING
« on: April 27, 2008, 03:35:43 PM »
This link takes you to a forum where a guy decided to test the penetration of a .22 cal LR cartridge at 300 yds.  He lays out his test and provides pictures.  Rudimentary test but revealing. Enjoy.

That was awesome!  Another reason why the 10/22 is one of the best firearms I have ever owned ;D

I am lucky to have a few hundered acres and a nice deck to shoot from here in Nebraska.

There are two fields in front of my house that seperated by a impassable low maintainace dirt road 220 yards out. I set up a few posts and made a shelf in the side of a cut hill just behind the road.

Several Gatorade bottles, soda cans and beer bottles have met there fate courtesy of my Ruger 10/22. I would also like to add that this was all done with the standard sights no optics! Of course it takes a few spotted shots at first but not bad overall for no optics.

I have used a few standard velocity .22lr cartridges but the CCI Velociraptor seems to work best.

I've always heard that sub-sonic 22lr is much more accurate out at the longer ranges. They are supposed to be more stable because they never really break the sound barrier and thus dont have the added turbulance.

DAMN !!!

I'm a Savage lover, and I love long range shooting, and I love the price of .22 rimfire ammo, and that gun can be bought for less than $400 plus optics.
