Whether or not it was a preordained set up, the actual mechanics of the deed were that the Jewish leadership condemned him and the Roman soldiers did the heavy lifting.

The jewish crowd chose to spare someone else. It was Pilate that condemned him. Yeah, the Temple elders held a grudge, but blaming them not the Romans is like saying the Nazis weren't behind the deeds of the Quisling regime in Norway. It doesn't wash. The buck stops with the guy in charge, which was Pilate.

Well, it was pre-ordained.......God told everyone through the Old Testament prophets it was coming....and everyone was a-waitin' and a-waitin'........ and when the time finally came 'round, they turned their backs..... just like they had been doing for generations..

For a historian you aren't very well informed.
What part of "I find no fault with this man" don't you get ?
Lots of schooling.
Pity it didn't include any LEARNING.

Do you really want to waste band width debating the Book of Matthew? Its there for all to see. Lets just agree that there are differing ways to interpret it, but I think I'm in the right here. Regardless, its not relevant to the post or the board.
