A new Texas-based company is developing a shooting system that could turn even the least skilled marksmen into a sniper-quality shooter.

We'll have to wait and see what happens with this.

I agree, very interesting though. I know with the projected price range I sure will not be doing any testing.

Stephan Hunter explored the idea in his novel "I Sniper".
The conclusion he drew was that no matter how much technology is applied it will not be able to out perform human ingenuity and instinct.

I would tend to agree, but technology is moving at such a fast pace it tends to blow the mind at times.

I don’t like that the weapon won’t let you fire unless it says to, and I have a hard time believing the wind speed would be accurate at 1000 yards.

However if it is perfected, it would be a game changer .

The whole world has changed in the last 25 years, No music DVD's, "car phones" used a car battery, and a personal computer was something that some geek built for himself .
When was the last time you saw a pay phone ?

Remember the word "recalculating", you know, the word that your GPS feeds back to you when conditions change? Or the phrase, "lost satellite access"? Well, your target may move, but you are stationary waiting for system to unlock? If you pull the trigger, the gun doesn't fire until it reacquires lock on your designated target? So, the target moves out of the sight picture and you are left with a weapon just waiting to fire by itself? I bet they are light years away from replicating the human's ability to react to a changing tactical situation. Should make it easier for lieutenants at Quals though.

The most "intelligent" rifle I could imagine is the one that assists the "Honorables" in getting some "religion" after it's stuffed up their butt..
That's what came to mind when I saw the title anyway..  ::)
With friends like these, who needs hallucinations!..

Ah yes, those guys.  In quals for the Expert Infantry Badge back in '93 at Ft. Carson we had one LT that couldn't qualify with two other LTs helping him out  :o  40 targets + 3 LTs= No qual!   ???

I shot Expert but failed my own station twice... DOH!  Clearing a Land mine for those that care  ;)

Now that whole scenario just flashed through my mind and was funny as all get out.  ;D

I can see the spotter telling the sniper to "Send it."
And nothing......
Spotter again saying, "Send it!"
And nothing........
And the sniper whispering in an embarrassed tone, "I can't send it."
Spotter says, "Why not?"
Sniper says, "The rifle won't let me!"
All while the sighting system is repeating, "Re-calculating" in a British accent.

"I expect perdition, I always have. I keep this building at my back, and several guns handy, in case perdition arrives in a form that's susceptible to bullets. I expect it will come in the disease form, though. I'm susceptible to diseases, and you can't shoot a damned disease." ~ Judge Roy Bean, Streets of Laredo

For the Patriots of this country, the Constitution is second only to the Bible for most. For those who love this country, but do not share my personal beliefs, it is their Bible. To them nothing comes before the Constitution of these United States of America. For this we are all labeled potential terrorists. ~ Dean Garrison
