Didn't we have a thread about another "gun buy back" where a gun club had been saving their worn out and broken firearms to turn in at the next event?

And they used the proceeded to buy firearms for their Youth Shooting Program? (or other good cause)

I know they have done a gun buy back programs in Minneapolis from time-to-time.  I know that they got mostly junk guns.  People turned in stuff because they got rid of guns that had no value.  I suppose there were some that turned in working guns but not many.

Minnesota has a law that the old Saturday night specials can't be re-sold in Minnesota.  The law requires that guns sold in Minnesota must have a metal melting point over 1000 degrees.  Almost all of the Saturday night specials had lower melting points.  These guns come in all the time to the gun shop and we send them back home.  Gunsmiths are not supposed to repair them.  Many of the guns fit this category.

Get them off the street!!!....work to get them donated for the next 'buy back', then donate the case to a gun worthy cause.

I remember when they got the "Saturday night Specials" banned.
That was the buzz word used to promote the GCA 68.
The claim was that "Coloreds" got likkered up and shot each other with these cheap guns on Saturday nights.
If they could just get rid of these cheap hand guns then crime would disappear.

How are you supposed to know the melting point of different guns?

When we had a gun "buy back" I got rid of some junk @ $25 a pop.

And what's the melting point a Colt peace keeper made in the 19th century?

It doesn't matter!

Get them anywhere close to red, and they are non-functional.  Once the springs are hot they are no good, and even if you replace them the gun won't last more than a shot or two.

Actually, if I were planning to shoot someone, doing it during a gun buyback would be the time. Do the crime, hand in the gun and its destroyed free of charge. No way they have the time and man power to record the serial numbers and run ballistics, plus its "no questions asked" so there's no ID required. You'd never have to worry about a police diver dredging it out of the river. And if if a cop comes to your door asking about a .45? "Well officer, I sold it to a midle aged white guy at the last gun show, I don't remember his name. Prove me wrong". ;D
