OK.  Where do some of you buy gas masks from.  Which one and why?

Not really.
The standard NATO filters keep out any chemical weapons you're liable to encounter.
The most likely are Chlorine, Phosgene, Sarin, Ricin, or tear gas .
The chances of having it when you need are pretty slim though.
Besides, depending on conditions none of those agents are anywhere near 100% fatal.
Out side a closed room you are more likely to just get sick, the Tokyo subway incident is a good indicator.
The biggest reason these weapons weren't used in WWII was that they weren't that effective nor were they predictable.
Every one who has ever used them ( Terrorists included) has lost people because because the wind changed .

Ditto.

Plus, the only good use I've found for mine is when I'm working with galvanized steel. The fumes from cutting/ welding it will kill you.

I have an East German copy of the US M17 gas mask I used in the army. The US hood fits on it too.

Old time welders trick, don't worry about the zinc fumes.
Just drink a glass of milk after you're done and you don't get the headache .

Save your $$. The chances of you having it when TSHTF are slim unless you carry it with you 24-7.. The canisters you need for the chem(s). you want to protect yourself from don't last for ever on the shelf (shelf life), plus the canisters are good for a onetime shot and can be expensive to buy. As for variables there are a few such as organic or in-organic?, concentration of Chem(s), wind, temp, humidity and others like mask fit. You can have the most expensive mask there is and still have leakage around the edges if you are walking, talking, running, sweating, laughing etc. I have to get a mask fit test every year to be sure there is no leakage. As for the masks that NATO & our military issue, keep in mind that they are there for use by soilders that are in a war & are expendable, they do offer limited protection to a point. Compared to what I use, I consider them false a sense of security.
