So what do I do with a NIB AK-47?
« on: December 22, 2012, 08:06:53 PM »
I "celebrated" the re-election of BHO with the purchase of an AK-47 (CIA PAP) and have since bought 3 more hi capacity magazines.  Its never been shot and they are going for crazy amounts on gun broker, if you can find them.  The store near me has no inventory.  Do I sell now, wait for the ban to go into place (seems likely) or sit on it?  Could be fun just to shoot as well, but can always use the money.  Maybe I will trade it in on the $1,100 revolver that caught my eye.....

Para, I'd hang on to it for 4 years if to make a killing ($-wise). By then, the $K revolver probably will not have appreciated as much as the AK. If you didn't buy the AK for a specific shooting purpose, I'd keep it cosmo'd. That's just me and I'm not an AK kind of guy, so take that advice for what it's worth.

I would hang onto until after the ban. Then you should be able to make a killing on it.

Isn't that the one you told me fell overboard while you were on a fishing trip last weekend?

If the revo is really sweet and what you would rather have, I'd think about getting the $$$ now.
Maybe wait until the details and timetable of the ban get ironed out but waiting too long could mean you have it for good with no transfer option available.

Just my $0.02

Well, I am thinking about selling an FAL and my Bren Ten for ca$h in the next couple of weeks.  Last buying spree I was offered $1,800 for the FAL while walking a small gun show after picking it up from FFL...if someone says $2,500 they can own it. Together I am thinking pull off the table 5k...gotta do it.

It's not going to be that easy to pass another ban. I don't care how much these flaming liberals want to play this silly, politically correct, emotional game. Dems know it amounted to political suicide, when they voted for it lock step with Clinton last time. They all lost their jobs over it, along with Democratic control of both Houses. Also, there was no run on AR-15's and AK-47's back then like there is now. Politicians aren't that stupid. They see how many people are running to buy these rifles, along with the 8,000 a day who are joining the NRA. Every one of them is a "NO" vote for any sitting incumbent, Republican or Democrat, who votes for a ban. A clearer picture could not be painted for them. A blind man can see it.

At this point I doubt Reid would even want this dog with fleas to come up for a vote in his marginally Democratic controlled Senate. It's far too risky for him. He wants to keep his powerful job as Senate Majority Leader, more than he wants to ban guns. He's smart enough to know if they pass another AWB in the Senate, he'll lose it, along with majority control in the 2014 mid term elections. Remember what happened to Tom Foley in 1994. He went from Speaker Of The House, to civilian in one night. The last time that happened was before the Civil War. Gun control has been all risk and no reward for the Dems. Sure they want it. But they are not going to be so warm and willing to pay such a stiff price to have it again. Remember, nobody is more selfish than a Washington politician.

Sit tight on the AK, like billt mentioned there are senators coming up for re-election in 2014 as well. The dems have to maintain a majority in the Senate, and some are in very red states. The executive orders on imports and imported ammo via a 30% tax seems more probable.

However, if you can double/triple your money on the AK....Than that is tempting. I'd hang tight until the new Congress critters get in.

Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."

Just fixing that little typo there.. Carry on..  ;)

If this thing broke loose the wrong way, it could be illegal to sell one privately..
Holding on to anything that pretty much anything that any of us would have should be considered worth holding onto, (and money in the bank, when combined with magazines and a case of ammo)..
You won't really start getting the itch to take it out till the weather breaks anyway. Unless you're really in a bind, wait a few months and see. It won't "go down" in value between now and then..

That'll be $.02, please...
Thank you very much..
