Well What a Week/Year its Been!
« on: December 24, 2012, 03:35:06 AM »
To say 2012 has been an annus horribilis could be a little of an understatement,
In another thread I let on about an illness I had been suffering with, then a little while after that I found out I was being made redundant, I was then extended to the 25th January. (small yay).
All this time my old dad has been ill. In and out of hospital numerous times until a few weeks ago and then they decided to stop chemo.
Well this past friday he passed on to a better place, with no more pain and to meet up again with mum (not sure he is going to be thrilled by this I think he appreciated the peace and quiet).
We knew it was coming but it still doesnt prepare you for when it finall happens, a call at 5.15 am never heralds good news in my experience and it wasnt. He had passed away about 4.45am on the 21st December 2012 at age 85 just a couple months shy of his 86th Birthday.
Well I say bring on 2013, it cant be as bad as this one.
With that said I wish you all on DRTV a Merry Christmas and a Safe and Happy New Year.

regards
Rob

Rob, I feel for you because I have had so many bad/sad/unwanted things happen during this time of the year myself.  I get very down starting about Oct.  But the new year does bring better times.  We have a new granddaughter arriving soon so maybe that is the start of a trend for TTOTY.  I know that it will be the start of a whole new set of wonderful memories for Grandma and I.

Here's wishing you and yours the best during the Christmas season and into the New Year!

God Bless,

Richard and Norma

Sledge, Ellis,

Hang in there.  And especially with grand-kids coming.  I've got three and they are a hoot.   Especially liken the "spoiling" them part.

I lost my dad in 2011 so I've been there.   I didn't realize how close we were, until he was gone.  I miss talking to him and sharing the good and bad things.  I feel for you.  The grand-kids will help fill the void and you always got us guys here to share with.

Yes sledge, it has been an annus horribilis, my Father passed away Nov. 18th only 64 years old. Took my family by surprise how fast things deteriorated after Labor Day.

Other friends also lost family members this year, illness and tough times also seemed just too damn prevalent with too many good people.

The re-election of "Santa Claus",..aka BHO, was also sad. Not just for me, but for all that recognize our country is now 180 degrees out of phase.

Kennedy's quote about "Asking not what your country can do for you", now has become "Where's my free sh**"...

My condolences to you and your family, and I hope and pray you get and stay on the mend yourself.

My 17 year old son is down from NC for Christmas, and that is certainly a tremendous bright spot at the closing of an otherwise bad year.

I hope and pray 2013 is better, but it's getting harder to remain so optimistic.

Merry Christmas to you sledge.

Stay Well

Rob, Rich, for some a tough year, for others a good one. For the record, over the past 2 decades, I lost most of my siblings to various reasons, plus both my folks as well, and have had minimal employment from '08 til this year, where I have worked pretty steadily. So I too know where you are.

And I have a granddaughter, 6-1/2 years old now, and I adore her, she changed my world. God willing, she will be coming to my wedding Friday.

Guys, these things happen for a reason. Can't always say why, but I have learned the hard way - the bitter, nasty, hard way - that there is a reason. Stay in the comfort of their presence while they were here, relish the time you had, find the memories of the good times, whatever they may have been, and savor every one of them. Mourn their passing for a short time, and then celebrate their lives for the rest of yours!

Rob, congrats to you!

Actually, my bad week/year has been spread over a number of years!!!!!  I am sure that with the new granddaughter it will be better.  Already have 4 grandkids by marrage but this will be our sons first!

I have to say that every major bad experience in my life, and most of the minor ones, have happened, or started, between Halloween and St Patrick's day .
My condolences for your loss, and I really hope that I've got your daughter and Phil's mixed up .

September seems to have always been my particular 'month of woes'... but over the last few years, September seems to have been bleeding out into other months.......... alas, the cyclical 'mountains and valleys' of life.

Best wishes to all for a better year next year.
