Women's awareness
« on: December 27, 2012, 07:48:28 AM »
Merry Christmas gentlemen and hopes for a happy new year as well

I was hoping to bundle a TBD video with some pepper spray for some of the women I know as gift this holiday season. Well work got in the way and I couldn't make it happen in time. Could one of you tell me what season the scenarios where two young ladies sharing an apartment had to come to terms with an acquaintance attacker, and another where a woman leaving a coffee shop was approached by a stranger who disengaged her defenses by calling her by the name on her coffee cup?

We have some young friends that work for the big coffee giant out of Seattle, and have experienced some customers following them to their cars and even to the grocery stores. Your approach to awareness for women is awesome. You tone down the "gun guy" bravado, and  take a level headed method that is not off putting to the women who think defenses and weapons are just boys concerns.

It's become apparent to me that women who work retail are very vulnerable to the customers who may mistake kind customer service as something more. Women working behind a counter in coffee shops and front desks of hotels are usually captive audiences and must continue to be professional even when creepy customers push boundaries. Please continue to address women's safety with the same gentle approach you have in the past. Your methods seem more effective than the macho militant scare tactics others employ when addressing women.

Thanks ,

Jeff

Dear AerialCameras:

Thanks for your desire to share self-defense information with the women in your life. Keep up the good work.

Unfortunately, the clips you refer to are not available on DVD like seasons 1 and 2 of The Best Defense. Even the DVD packages for those seasons are becoming difficult to find. At one time, OC had planned an on-line video on demand service for back episodes of The Best Defense, but I'm not sure of its status.

In the meantime, the first clip you refer to (and a number of other TBD episodes) can be found in unuahtorized form on YouTube here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVdWeGYNzYI&list=UUGZqttgEEmpMp6cStwB0ZQw&index=7.

Fortunately, the second clip you reference is included in part in the season 4 highlights on the OC web site here:
http://outdoorchannel.com/Shows/BestDefense.aspx?pid=yVSgkT7c1xLi1EqpZYQdQn1sTokjZ0vB&startIndex=1&endIndex=6&delta=0

We have had very good feedback from the ladies concerning our approach to self-defense on TBD. We try very hard to make it understandable and practical without the macho B.S. It's very gratifying to know that we're hitting the mark and encouraging many women to develop sound personal-defense skills and habits.

Stay safe,

Mike

It drives me nuts to walk down the street.
I'm reasonably alert and every day I see women, not just young ones, doing incredibly stupid things .
Walking along with their full attention on what they are texting, they don't even know where they are.
I've seen more than one walk out into traffic .
talking on the cell phone, also oblivious to their surroundings .
The one I really love though is parking 2 spaces away from a mail box, getting out of the car (left running) and walking to the mail box while concentrating on the mail they are dropping off with out even closing the car door.
I often wonder what they would have to say if when they finally looked around their car had been driven away.
Would they even notice ?

Thanks Mike

From my searches I arrived at the same conclusion. I'm just now catching up on some past episodes and am happy you've addressed the concerns of us travelers.

Keep em coming

Jeff
