Writing a letter to a Liberal politician about protecting gun rights is tricky. Actually it's down right hard. Especially if they got voted in or came through the ranks by the wrong thoughts of gun control.
You're not going to get these people to become gun loving hippies or even gun tolerant.
But what you can do is change their perspective or angle of thought. Give them another item to focus on in the overall issue. Point them to another target and let them fire at that instead of focusing on the ideas of gun control. Give them something else to fight for and about.
This letter does that. It uses all the language they are used to. It feeds their ego while giving them a sense of duty. They get to show they are doing something while not harming the 2nd Amendment and our rights.
Most of all, it distracts them to the point they will want different bills instead of being united against guns.
Here it is. feel free to cut and paste with whatever liberal politicians name on it you need.

Dear Senator/Representative who is Liberal,
Greetings. With the Tragedy of Sandy Hook still in my thoughts as well as the other tragedies reported over the last few months I wanted to voice my concerns about a quick, Band-Aid approach being introduced and passed instead of working towards a real solution to the problem facing our country.
I’m talking about the proposed new gun control bills being talked about on CNN and NBC News by legislators who want to do something to help.
While noble in intention, these proposals are a Band-Aid answer to a cancer problem. It focuses on the stopping the how and not the why. We need to focus on the why and not the how.
We tried stopping the how before and it didn’t work. We tried to stop alcoholism by instituting prohibition in 1920. For thirteen years the buying of all alcohol was illegal. For thirteen years people bought gallons of illegal alcohol and enriched the criminal element out of their own pocket. Public intoxication still happened; people still drove drunk; and alcoholics still got their fix. After thirteen years of high costs and little results, Prohibition was repealed and we started to work on solving the why.
Programs like MADD and Alcoholics Anonymous have reached, informed and helped alcoholics find a cure for their disease. We can do the same for those that are suffering the diseases of rage, isolationism, and low self-esteem. If we teach them how to communicate their frustrations, show them how they are a part of and influence our world, and give them the tools to find their own self-worth; if we solve the why, stop the motivation to violence trying to stop the how won’t matter. The how won’t matter.
You are my Senator/Representative. You have the power and ability to make this happen. Push forward a real bill that stops the why and not the how. Give us the tools to stop these tragedies before they are even thought of. Create and fund these programs and cure this disease of violence instead of putting a Band-Aid on it. Our children and our future deserve it.
Thank You.
Sincerely,
