Gun shop observation
« on: January 03, 2013, 02:52:19 PM »
Stopped by the closest local gun shop for about 1/2 hour yesterday.  They are a very small shop and normally closed on Sundays and Mondays.  They had been closed for 4 days from Saturday thru Tuesday for New years and a small break.  They have been sold out of semi auto sporting rifles for awhile and their 9 mm selection is quickly dwindling down.  They had received delivery of quite a number of hand guns that day and had not had time to check them in.  By chance they already had a order of 30 round Brownell's AR mags coming in and they received those.  I was disappointed to see that they jacked the price up to $34.95 each.

As I got there one customer was leaving with 2 semi auto shotguns.  In the 1/2 hour I was there they sold 4 handguns, 3 to first time owners.  They asked another buyer if he could come back as they had not even gotten to the gun he ordered that came in that day yet.  One of the first time owners was a school principal.  The shop owner mentioned that since Sandy Hook, they have sold handguns to a lot of school teachers.

A customer called in and asked about primers and they sold him a case of 5000 small rifle primers and they now have one box of 1000 left.

The owner mentioned that they are selling many handguns as fast as they can get them in.  They can't even order many of the hottest, best sellers as many distributors are sold out and won't take orders.  They are now ordering second tier guns that are available that they think they can sell.

seems to me a lot of people are voting with their wallets

My local 'sit and bs with the guy' shop has next to nothing left but good coffee
Have your musket clean as a whistle, hatchet scoured, 60 rounds powder and ball and be ready to march at a minute's warning.

Went to a local rinky dink gun show last week end. Not a lot of guns left by the time I went sunday about noon. They had AR mags jacked up, for 30 rd mags they were asking 60 to 100 bucks. 1 dealer had a AR left, not sure of the brand. Some one asked what he wanted for it, and he said 900. He said the other dealers told him he should ask 1500 and someone would buy it, he said he didn't work that way. It was sold before I left his table.
