Government approves action programme on disarmament of citizens in illegal possession of firearms

The Angolan Government passed Wednesday here an Action Programme on Disarmament of the population in possession of illegal firearms, part of democracy and peace consolidation programme, as well as the strengthening of constitutional guarantees and rights.

The Government underlines that the illegal possession of firearms by citizens represents a stimulus to violence and weakens the current efforts of guaranteeing collective security and tranquillity.

"The existence of firearms in illegal possession of civilians has a negative impact on the ongoing national reconciliation and reconstruction process and may affect normal human, economic, social and cultural development of the country," reads the note.

If in the past such weapons constituted to many the unique way of defense of their belongings and the lives of their relatives, above all for those who were direct victims of war, now they do not have any reason to exist in the era of peace reached more than six years ago.

The Angolan Government considers that, apart from the cessation of hostilities, the consolidation of peace requires a salutary coexistence, in order to pacify the spirits and to fully disarm the society.

They'd better make hatchets, sticks and farm hoes illegal too...isn't that what they were doing awhile ago? Take away their guns they'll just hack each other up with whatever tools they have lying around.

Let's see if "President Obama" uses this as his "model" for US disarmament.  This would not be too much of a surprise ESPECIALLY if he picks Bloomberg as his VP.

Wait, eh … I think I have a little throw-up in the back of my throat.

I've some friends who travel to Angola frequently in the oil business (I turned down the $'s) and it is known as one of the absolute worst places in the world to be.

Back in the '80's when the Cubans were there big time, I had some friends working at a beachside oil battery (offshore oil came in for processing and sales) for Gulf Oil.  They were protected by 32 Portugese special forces patroling in 2's and had weekly drills to evacuate the compound (by boat) if attacked.  There were two fences with a minefield on the outside and Cuban guard towers with MG's every 200 yards....this was to keep people in.  Seemed as though the Angolans did not want the US there but they wanted the oil and the Soviets and Cubans did not have what it took to produce it.

They would fly in...be escorted single file on the tarmac to a barbed wire "cattle pen" with Cuban nationals holding AK's.  After a bit, they were either escorted in buses with Cuban nationals in the bus to the work location.  If by bus they had their version of jeeps and MG's in front and behind...not to protect them but to keep them from getting out.  Sometimes they went by chopper which they all preferred.

Yeah, I'd be turning in my gun.  Right.  We're gonna see that...HA!

Something to ponder for sage advice.

I'm sure the United Nations would NEVER let that happen,,....,.......
Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."
