CCRKBA, SAF JOIN SUPPORT OF ‘GUN APPRECIATION DAY’ ON JAN. 19

BELLEVUE, WA – The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms and the Second Amendment Foundation have joined a broad coalition of organizations in support of a national “Gun Appreciation Day” on Saturday, Jan. 19. The Gun Appreciation Day website is at gunappreciationday.com.

CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb said the movement is in response to announcements from the Obama White House and Capitol Hill that there will be legislative attempts to impose wide-ranging restrictions on firearms ownership, including bans on modern semiautomatic sporting rifles, handguns and ammunition magazines.

“We need to ban politicians who assault our rights,” said Gottlieb, who is also the SAF executive vice president, “not firearms that are used thousands of times a day to protect lives and property from criminal attack.”

“The Obama administration has shown that it is more than willing to trample the Constitution to impose its dictates upon the American people,” added Gun Appreciation Day chairman Larry Ward, president of Political Media, Inc. “If  the American people don’t fight back now, Obama will do the Second Amendment what he has already done to the First with Obamacare – gut it without a moment’s thought to our basic constitutional rights.”

It is no accident that Jan. 19 was selected for this event. It falls two days before President Obama is sworn in for his second term.

“We want the president and his allies on Capitol Hill to understand their new push will result in a shove back from the people,” Gottlieb stated. “Millions of law-abiding firearms owners are not about to be penalized for the unconscionable act of a madman. We will not all be judged by the conduct of a single crazy person.

“Our intent is to telegraph a message to Congress and state legislatures around the country that trampling our rights is not an acceptable solution to violent crimes committed by people who don’t care about laws, much less the lives of the people they harm,” he said.

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is one of the nation’s premier gun rights organizations. As a non-profit organization, the Citizens Committee is dedicated to preserving firearms freedoms through active lobbying of elected officials and facilitating grass-roots organization of gun rights activists in local communities throughout the United States. The Citizens Committee can be reached by phone at (425) 454-4911, on the Internet at www.ccrkba.org or by email to InformationRequest@ccrkba.org.

Here's my read on this...
They're looking at the wrong locations.  It's all about going to a gun show or shop and maybe buying something (If there's anything to buy).  Totally wrong approach.  Like has been mentioned here in a couple places, we, collectively, need to be more "open" like the gays and other "socially repressed minorities."  Have everybody meet up on the statehouse lawn or the National Mall.  Meeting at Joe's Used Guns might get a few people to notice, but hundreds/thousands of people on the front lawn of Congress will get EVERYBODY to notice.

I was thinking the same thing and totally agree.  Where's the coordination between the 2AF, NRA and all others to organize a unified mass rally on the National Mall?  I'm waiting and willing.

I bet the other groups had less trouble getting the necessary permits than a Pro 2A group would.

I wonder what hassle a 'spontaneous' gathering would draw.

"Good intentions will always be pleaded for every assumption of authority. It is hardly too strong to say that the Constitution was made to guard the people against the dangers of good intentions. There are men in all ages who mean to govern well, but they mean to govern. They promise to be good masters, but they mean to be masters."

Been there (Washington, DC) Done that.  April 19, 2010 2nd Amendment March.  Excellent Speakers, MB,Oath Keepers, USCC, Students for Concealed Carry, Rev. Ken Blanchard, Larry Pratt GOA and others.  Aproximately 2000 in attendance.  No support from NRA or Firearms Community.  People said "Well Obama has not done anything to gun owners" I don't want to sound too negative but unless gun owners are willing to step up, another small crowd is not going to advance the cause. NRA said they don't participate in marches because the MSM won't cover it in the first place.  Manufacturers that I personally contacted never returned my calls or emails. Midway USA and Hornady did reply to my emails.  But indicated no interest. Go to 2nd Amendment March on You Tube. See what you missed.  Maybe if we had a strong showing then, maybe things would be different.

According to several sources quoted in newspapers this morning, V.P Biden and Pres. BHO plan to have the entire infringement completed prior to this event  >:(
